how can i stop my dog digging?

my gorgeous staff has been digging for the past 3-4 months but it has got to the point that everytime he goes out into the garden he digs a hole,

i know its a natural thing for them to to but it is just ruining the garden

and it might be nothing but he is collecting all the stones he finds and putting them in a pile at the back of the garden,

My dogs dig too. It drives my other half mad! I'd be interested in any advice on this too.

I did see on a program once if your dog digs all the time, buy a plastic childs paddling pool ( they make them here in the shape of a clam ) and fill with white sand. Then bury a couple of your dogs toys or some treats and encourage the dog to dig in it. The dog soon learns to dig in that only.... well it did on the show anyway!!

Concur provide them with an area they are allowed to dig because there is no way to stop it Sadly we have a very small back yard so Suki usually digs on our couch and under the throw rugs.

im the same my dog digs as well i have tried the sand pit advise and she digs in it but then goes back and digs the garden up any other advice please

don't know if it works but at puppy school they said if your dog digs in the same places put some of their poo there and they won't go near it....worth a try maybe ??

i hope so as well vanessa as i have tried sand pit at the moment i have chairs over the holes so she cant dig them up but she hasnt dug any new holes so lets hope by placing her u no wat in the hole (poo) it might stop her thank u once again vanessa u are all such wanderful and helpful people on here

thank u vanessa if that works then the next on my list will b for her in the garden will be to stop jumping up at me and mouthing she doesnt do it wen she going for walks or indoors only in the garden lol any tips vanessa

I will have to give that sand pit a try. I spent a whole weekend making a gorgeous flower garden this summer and it only took Oliver and Lola a few minutes to make it into a bunker. I have a pretty large back yard for them to run around in but it seems that they only want to destroy my favorite sections.

msigler i have a sand pit for my staff and that never worked so vanessa said try putting her poo in the holes so i did and since then she has not dug any holes or gone back and try to dig at the existing holes hope this works for u as it did for me ><
