Re: Lung Worm Prevention
Hi, we use Advocate once a month as a prevention for lots of nasties. It can be purchased at the vets or online.

Re: Lung Worm Prevention
Sophie had Demodex mites when she was small, so the vet advised us to treat her on an ongoing basis. Looking at this, do you think it is necessary?

All dogs have the demodex mite! They're born with them & usually don't do any harm. Occasionally they multiply (after an illness or stress etc) and can cause hair loos & skin problems, and that's when they shouold be treated. Otherwise, leave well alone!
I get an all-purpose wormer from the vet. It's £8.95 for two chewable tablets (Dempsey's 31 kilos, so he needs two!) and it covers roundworm, tapeworm & lungworm (prevention). No womers will get rid of lungworm once it's there, you have to get specific meds from the vet in that case.
I don't de-flea my dogs unless necessary, although this year I have done as there is a high population of ticks around so I use frontline combo.

Re: Lung Worm Prevention
Hi Caryll, Sophie did develop hair loss as you describe. The vet thought her imune system might be a little low to cause this outbreak. She was only about 12 weeks old. It was on her chest, front legs and tummy, but we got her treated straight away.
The vet originally presctibed ProMeris Duo, but Sophie had a really bad reaction to it
After treatment and since her coat is beautiful
