Patrick Update
Copied this from a site called fluffyfeet!
"Unfortunately, Patrick has not yet been adopted and one reason is a battle for his custody in the courts. Even though Patrick’s “owner” is accused of starving him and throwing him down a garbage chute, she still “owns” him until she gives up her rights to him. Considering the abuse and cruelty this dog suffered while in her care, I think its astounding she has any rights concerning him at all.
The animal hospital that has been caring for Patrick is Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls and they want to keep him there, the Humane Society that originally took Patrick in says he should be with them and the woman who has been his caretaker at the animal hospital wants to adopt him. Also the City of Newark, NJ wants Patrick to raise dollars for a new animal shelter.
This is a very complicated situation and I have no idea how it will eventually work itself out. I do think a good home should be found for Patrick where he can live like a beloved pet rather than a celebrity. I know he is raising a lot of money for good causes, but this poor dog has been through so much and deserves to be left alone to be a dog first and foremost and a fund-raiser as an after thought.
The concerned parties were in court last Thursday.
From NJ dot-com;
Harry Levin, representing Associated Humane Societies, argued Patrick is the property of the humane society, which initially took in the dog. Patrick’s fame has raised an estimated $100,000, he said.
“What happens to Patrick is an important issue. Patrick has become a celebrity,” Levin said in his testimony before Superior Court Judge Joseph Cassini III in Newark.
William Strazza, representing the city, argued Patrick technically still belongs to his alleged abuser, Kisha Curtis, who faces animal cruelty charges.
“Patrick didn’t wake up one day and decide to become a celebrity. He was turned into one” by the Associated Humane Societies, Strazza said.Meanwhile, Patricia Smillie-Scavelli, hospital administrator at Garden State Veterinary Specialists, said she hopes to one day adopt Patrick.
Perhaps Patrick’s care taker at the animal hospital would be the best one to adopt Patrick. Certainly the dog has to have a lot of trust in her and know she means him well and not harm. But to be fair there really has to be an open adoption for him and he should go to the people who can give him the best home while providing all the love he can soak up."

Just when you think that it's the animal that's the most important thing..............

Re: Patrick Update
The courts ruled months ago that Patrick should stay wit GSVS (the vet hospital) until the courts decide where he should go. The Humane Society knows this, but for some reason feel that they should be able take Patrick to their rehabilitation center called Popcorn Park Zoo. Like it's name suggests it is pretty much a zoo, people can actually pay money to visit the animals housed there. I, personally, don't think he should go there. From the photographs and updates I have seen online, he is doing wonderfully at GSVS and I think he should stay there until he is released and aloud to be adopted. At which point I think he should be adopted by the woman at the GSVS that has been caring for him all this time, they have a bond and know each other well.
