Hello, we're new here.
Hello all. I'm new here. We've a great rescue staffie who has been with us for near on 18 months now. He's just fab! We call him Marley Bear. We think he's about 8/9 years old. We don't have much history for him, but he's a very loving fella with some quirks. Happy to say he's fully settled into our family. He has a very sweet nature but he's still quite anxious outside of the home and in certain environments. These things we continue to work on but as an older dog, we accept these things are quite rooted in him so we take our walks at quieter times and focus on his play at home. So I'm really going to have a lot of questions about different toys and other ways to stimulate him and keep him busy! :

Hello and welcome.
Good on you for offering your Marley Bear his forever home.
He has such a sweet face !
As for the toys, is yours a chewer or one who likes his cuddly toys ?
Does he prefer balls or sticks ?
Mine are all prolific chewers

Re: Hello, we're new here.
Hello! He's a destroyer! One of his favourite toys was a large boomer ball which he would chase around the garden. Unfortunately, he came with us with some damaged teeth and the boomer ball acted like an angle grinder on his teeth, so we had to take it away from him. I would love to find another toy similar to the boomer ball which wasn't so hard and didn't cause damage. I've tried a Jolly Ball, but it wasn't large enough and he wasn't interested. If there was a way of even coating the boomer in something, I'd give that a go. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Got to say, I had a mad idea of messing about with a yoga ball, it's the perfect size. But after inflating it, with him watching me very excited, he made a quick pounce at it and it deflated within seconds!
He's also very food orientated. The jolly ball is now a massive treat ball. I melted a hole in it so he chases that about, but we're trying to work on his weight and exercise more. If only that Boomer was softer. He loved it!
What are your favourite toys? Have you found anything that lasts more than minutes or seconds ?

Re: Hello, we're new here.
Ah yes, I feel for you in terms of destruction
Have you tried the “Jolly Egg” rather than the Jolly ball?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jolly-Pets-Egg-Dog-Yellow/dp/B003TEQ2U6/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=UCK23A4MVSMK&keywords=jolly+egg+dog+toy&qid=1672343127&s=pet-supplies&sprefix=Jolly+egg%2Cpets%2C1568&sr=1-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1&smid=A1K179IFNMF7MX
I once had a jolly ball for the horses and it had a sort of handle on it
My girls are more fetch and destroy rather than run after alone.
We have had success with West Paw dog toys but be careful, there are different types.

The Zwig and Zogoflex Bumi and Air Dash Frisbee are firm favourites here.
Kong safestix do survive too

Re: Hello, we're new here.
Thank you and hello.
Glad to have found this forum. We've always had dogs of varies types and looked after dogs of all shapes and sizes, but this is our first full time staffy and they certainly are very special! Looking forward to learning more from all of you.
It's raining very heavy outside today, so we've plans to get creative with some cardboard boxes to keep this fella busy! He loves a bit of recycling.

Re: Hello, we're new here.
Katy loves recycling too Put some treats in the boxes as a bonus for shredding them
So you've already figured out that Staffies melt in the rain

Re: Hello, we're new here.
Thanks so much for all your suggestions. We've got a few toys ordered. Right now we've made our own puzzle toy by stuffing all the bits of destroyed toys into the destroyed football and his treats in it. Keeps him occupied for a bit. He's enjoying pulling everything out though we have to supervise him because the football ends up like a cras helmet on his head
