My best boy Nero has started snapping at young children,it’s happened three times now, getting worried as I don’t want to muzzle him all the time but obviously would hate it if he bit one of our grandchildren.Any thoughts ??

How old is he now?

What exactly does he do, and when?

My old Stafford did something similar at about 15-18 months old. But once he got to 2 years he was fine.

I wonder if children stress him a bit? They're so different to adults & I think adolescent dogs find it difficult to suss them out.

Hes done it twice,my 8 mth old grandson was near him and we just heard him snap very close to him.
This weekend, freinds daughters (3/4yrs) were getting close to him, trying to cuddle him,he snapped at them once then a bit later in the day it happened again.
Dont want him to bite anyone

Okay, he hasn't learned patience. It isn't 'aggression', it isn't being nasty. He's an adolescent, without the patience of adulthood.

I would advise you, for the time being, to keep baby gates between your pup & the little'uns. Dogs are often 'worried' about children, they just don't understand their levels of energy. That puts them on a back-leg, as it were. Your dog isn't to blame, neither are the kids.

Be aware. Be careful. Introduce slowly, carefully and nicely to those wonderfully entertaining kids who look at dogs as their ultimate playmates.

But it's YOUR job to supervise & regulate.
