Hello, new staffy parent - bald patches concern
Hello all,
My partner and I have recently welcomed a beautiful little Blue staffy puppy! He is absolutely gorgeous and is keeping us busy.
He has settled in nicely to our home. Max enjoys playing and is eating well.
But we noticed on first day a small bald patch on his neck and now day 5 we have noticed more smaller bald patches on his neck, head and back of his legs.
We are really unsure what they are.
Skin isn’t red and he doesn’t itch them or show any discomfort.
Have attached some pictures - would be very grateful if anyone could advise?
Vet believed it may be a food allergy - any recommendations on new dry food?
Thank you - Abi

Re: Hello, new staffy parent - bald patches concern
To be honest, it could be a number of things.
The second pic looks a little worrying because there looks to be a patch of thinning fur?
The trouble is, with young puppies they can lose fur for many reasons & mostly it all grows back properly when they get their adult coat.
What colour are his parents?

On closer inspection it’s not a patch - think just the angle of photo. Just lots of little spots.
Yes it our first staffy so has got us a bit worried! He’s happy and healthy, skin isn’t red or itchy. So not sure really!

Hi from me & Katy, welcome to our forum What are you feeding Max? Is your vet going to test him for food allergies? I would suggest either a raw diet or hypoallergenic food!
It's possible it is a skin condition as both his parents are blues Blue on blue bred pups do seem to get more skin/fur issues unfortunately.

Re: Hello, new staffy parent - bald patches concern
Hi Jen
It’s the same as the breeder was feeding him called Step Up dry food from pets at home. We are going to be changing - have been researching best foods to change too now he’s settled.
No feel bit let down by our vets, as we took him the other day as concerned and they were not very reassuring just saying to change food and monitor.
We are thinking it might be demodex mites. So going to get some advocate for him and will monitor.

There is a lot of grain in the ingredients, rice, oats & barley! I would suggest trying a hypoallergenic feed instead, then if no change ask your vet to test for mites
