what is he please

Hi Guys  have had in the past Wiemeranas  staffy cross patterdale a true staffy we lost to cancer at 22 months and have in july rescued from a family member a staffy cross AB but some people say he's a pit . he has great temperament and loves kids would like some thoughts on him breed wise

Hi from me & Katy, welcome to our forum He's a handsome young man Where are you based? What's his name? He looks AB to me but you can never really know, people have said to me that Katy is a pit bull they really haven't got a clue what they are talking about!

Hi Jen thanks for reply , we have seen photos of his parents mum is a fawn staff and dad a blue bully , but you never know the family member who got him (despite us telling her not to as she had 2 young girls and part time job ) then was stressing about how needy he was showed us photos she was shown , so who knows.. his name i Kia , he's 11 mth now and 27kg and has been with us since end of June in Dunbar Scotland where we spend the summer .. as i said he loves kids , and has seen his former owner and her kids since we have been back from Scotland for the winter and he was so happy to see them but sad when they went bless , so not sure thats a good idea again . quite a number of people have commented that they think he is a pitbull which does worry us a bit , but to be honest he is so friendly with everyone and every dog ,, until this morning after playing with a Bedlington lurcher pup we met a lady with a 6 moth blue merle English bulldog male pup who after some initial play Kai got quite cross and dominant and snarled and growled at him which took me aback , the previous owner said he had a set to with a bully type dog before , should i be concerned , obviously i will be aware of this in future but any help would be taken on board

I think it will help him settle properly if he doesn't see his previous family, it's bound to upset & confuse him. I would just keep an eye on play with other dogs, if he gets too grumbly & dominant remove him calmly from the play. Has he been neutered?

yeah , we did that when he was 8 mths , young i know but he was attracting attention from some unsavoury looking people in vans and we didn't want him to get dominate with our 8 year old weimy who does put him in his place though .. thank for imput

Yes a bit too young but I can understand if people were showing too much of an interest! He may just not like bully breeds. Katy dislikes black dogs more than others!!

aye our wiemy dislikes black dogs too ,, so you think he is more AB , would i be better talking to some AB owners , this is his mum and dad

I'm no expert but he looks AB to me They are very similar in nature to staffies just a bigger version

To be honest, I would do everything I can to make sure his behaviour is exemplary. Take him to a training club, get his KC Good Citizen Award if you can.

I only say this because a pure bred American Bully can prove lineage & can still be termed 'type' - a cross breed can be a 'type' no matter what.

I don't know his measurements, but from your photos you COULD have problems. You must remember that the 'banned' dogs only need to measure up to guidelines to be declared 'type'.

Do you have insurance for him?

oh yes he's insured had 5 dogs over 20 yrs all with top level insurance , yeah i am awear of the measurement tick list system .
