Spots on coat
Hi everyone.
Yesterday I became the proud owner of a beautiful little staffy girl who's blue in colour and ive been reading into the skin conditions etc.
She is all blue apart from a tiny white patch on her chest.
I've noticed over her coat, especially more noticeable towards the back end of her body that its as though she's got darker spotted patches which almost looks like she's got drops of water on her coat but it's not as she's dry.
I'm now concerned incase it's an early sign of a future skin condition or that her coat is changing colour.
Also she's got the same darker colour on the back of her neck but it's in a line.
Could anybody shed some light on what this could be please ?
Thankyou

Re: Spots on coat
Hi, do you know what colour her parents are? I'm hoping it's not blue on blue as they do suffer badly with skin issues. It may be she's a blue brindle so that would explain darker patches, hard to say without seeing her

She'll be registered as blue.
Although it's possible that she's a blue brindle, it's also possible that she has either skin issues or even a food intolerance. How old is she?
Could you put a couple of photos on here so we can see what these darker spots look like?

Re: Spots on coat
From those pics i wouldn't say she was blue/brindle as its usually flecks of colour rather than spots What are you feeding her? With blue on blue breeding I would go for either raw or the best hypoallergenic food you can afford. Probably best to rule out chicken too!

Re: Spots on coat
Her mother was blue with a white chest and white socks. Her father was a son of blue regiment.
I have noticed that she scratches/nibbles her back end sometimes throughout the day which I try to make her stop which she does.
We are going to try her on food from tails.com and see how she goes.
Is it OK to give her omega 3 capsules each day at this young age and if so, is there a particular type I should choose .
Also, what colour would you say she is as she's certainly blue/grey in colour

Re: Spots on coat
I tried Tails last year & tbh they didn't help Katy! She's now on Eden Holistic Country Cuisine & doing great. Have a look https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwiP9fzL2qL0AhWE6-0KHW2lDXQYABAXGgJkZw&ae=2&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAASE-RooQ4wbgfcj1ZliKGmYiE8hdQ&sig=AOD64_2FgCt6Dv-mvtW7vY2Etsa8i2fyCg&q&adurl&ved=2ahUKEwim1PXL2qL0AhUKiFwKHTmFCrsQ0Qx6BAgFEAE
I would put salmon oil on her dinner & she could be blue/fawn

Re: Spots on coat
From the picture the spots look like tiny areas of hair loss. Possibly insect bites?
I would say she's going to be blue brindle.

Re: Spots on coat
If it were hair loss then wouldn't the spots be lighter and not darker

Re: Spots on coat
Not necessarily. It depends on skin colour & the lie of the hair.
I would ask a vet to have a quick look & see what they say?

Re: Spots on coat
I've noticed that she does dig at her back throughout the day. The breeders just fed her adult dry food and left it down all day. I've now put her onto harringtons wet food and AVA puppy kibble. A 50/50 mix with salmon oil 1(teaspoon) each day in with her food.
I'm also going to give her 1 raw egg per week in a hope to get her in the beat possible condition.
If I don't see any improvement in the itching then I'll take her to the vets

Re: Spots on coat
Not a very good breeder feeding puppies adult food! Give her a couple of weeks to transition over to her new food & see how she is when on it fully. If she's still itching pop her to the vets to get allergy tested

Re: Spots on coat
Her coat all over is now the same colour as the spots that you see in the pictures. I'm guessing I was just paranoid and that it was the start of her other coat coming through. She's no longer the colour in the pics and is now a fair bit darker. I'm not sure if this is how the coat changes ( in spots at first) but it's all looking good now

Re: Spots on coat
Ok thank you for replying. My little one has spots but they are small bald patches so not too sure.
Vet said possibly food allergy but we worried about mites although skins clear and not itchy.
