15year old Staffy Lola - advice on ill health
Hi, I am looking for advice. sorry for the long post.
My 15year old staff Lola is not well. About a year ago she started peeing in the house , we took her to the vets who said she had a urine infection and gave us antibiotics. This did nothing to help. A few months later we took her back to a different vet who did another urine test and a blood test which all came back fine. They then did a scan on her bladder where they found a lump, it was small and they said they thought it was cyst soo gave some anti inflammatory and more antibiotics. This also didn't improve anything.
At this point we put it down to old age and decided to just deal with it by putting puppy pads down.
A few months later her behaviour started to change, when going to the toilet in the garden she started pacing around and making a strange noise like she was in pain. It wasn't all the time to start with so left her be thinking that we had already been to the vet and gotten nowhere with it.
It started getting worse where she was going out 5times in the morning pacing for around 3minutes each time and crying out. So I took her back to the vets with a video of it.
She said she seemed distressed and did another scan. The lump was still there and had got worse but not as bad as she expected. So sent me away with more antibiotics, painkillers etc.
It helped a little for a couple of days but then she was back to as she was before ( whilst still taking the tablets)
Now she has started pooing in the house ( always runny) and the pacing is going on for longer and the noises getting louder.
The strange thing is that when we take her for a walk ( rare due to her back legs going) she doesn't make the noise???!
I think we are at the point where it's time to say goodbye and take her to the vet but I don't know if it's the right thing.
Has anyone had the same type of experience with their dog that could offer some advice?
Thanks

Re: 15year old Staffy Lola - advice on ill health
Hi from me & Katy, welcome to our forum Sorry to hear that Lola is struggling I suppose due to her age they won't operate to remove the cyst It's hard to see them struggling but I always believe they will let you know when its time & they've had enough. As long as she's still got a good quality of life & isn't suffering just manage the pain & love her We would love to see pics of her
