Best dog breed for a cat household
Hi!
Our family has just bought a beautiful big house, and we are finally getting a dog! We have two Siamese cats, they're not vicious at all (they are cute, intelligent, and funny as https://catspurfection.com/purrfect-siamese-cat-names.html states). What breed does get on well with cats?

Re: Best dog breed for a cat household
Hi from me & Katy, welcome to our forum tbh most breeds of dog can live quite happily with cats if they have been introduced properly. Just ensure the cats have somewhere they can go to that the dogs can't if it gets too much for them.

Re: Best dog breed for a cat household
Hello and welcome.
I agree with Jen and would venture to say that as much as the pup needs to be introduced to the cats, how do your cats react to dogs ?
My adult cats never showed any interest in my girls as pups so they always ran from the dogs inciting the dogs to chase (despite my Opium being raised with cats).
If it can help, most dog shelters will test for cat compatibility so then you know your dog is ok, leaves you to deal with your cats’ reactions to the dog

Welcome to the forum!
Staffords have no problems living with cats providing they're introduced properly at an early age.
If you get a couple of baby gates, that will allow the cats some peace from an inquisitive & playful puppy!

Re: Best dog breed for a cat household
Some dog breeds known to be good with cats include Golden Retrievers, Toy Poodles, and Bichon Frises. Yet, it's important to note that every dog has its own personality, and it's essential to introduce any new dog to your cats slowly and carefully.

Thanks for sharing your insights! Learning about IPO and how it tests a dog's abilities in different areas is so interesting. It's sad to hear about the passing of your beautiful boy Slash, but it's clear that he was a talented and well-trained dog.
