Poor recall when other dogs are around
Good evening all,
I hope someone can help? Our 17 week old boy Chaos, walks really well off the lead. He will come straight away if we are on our own, BUT as soon as he see's another dog BIG or SMALL bang off hes gone. He is whistle trained BUT i dont want to be standing in a park or the woods blowing a blooming whistle like a mad man.
Ive read up as much as i can and most say try to entice with a treat, im not happy with this method.... only because 90% of the time he is fine.

I would suggest going back to training it again & practise it in all situations at home & out on walks. Maybe get a lunge line so he can still run free but you have the chance to grab the line if he's ignoring you.

I'll second the long line.
At 17 weeks I wouldn't expect him to have a perfect recall & of course other dogs are more interesting than you! But each time it fails, you're going back a step & setting him up to fail again.

Did you rename Oakley or is this another dog ?
I also recommend the long line, just to stop him running off into the sunset. Maybe you are being a little demanding of a youngster too ?

I think this must be a different dog, as Oakley would be about 24 weeks now?

Oh gosh, so sorry you were scammed for Oakley
but you found Chaos and he really sounds like a great pup.
90% recall at 17 weeks is pretty impressive !

I wouldn't expect 100% recall from any bull breed till at least 9-12 months! You're doing really well, so don't raise the bar too high; take it slowly & steadily.
