Tyson
Me and my partner just picked up our boy Tyson last weekend, hes 10 months old, a very quick learner and all in all a happy bouncy good boy.
We're told he's a staff x with abd, which was fine until we were told to be careful due to the "of type" rules, which has us a little nervous but we're just going to train him as well as we can and do our best to be good owners

Re: Tyson
He isnt, we got him off a couple that could no longer keep him due to some fears that he may show the behaviour issues his sister had. So far hes been a great boy bar a few accidents which we are putting down to his age and the new scary environment, he has been well mannered around other dogs.

Re: Tyson
Oh ? What kind of behaviour issues does his sister have ? Did the couple own both dogs ?
I would say that almost all behaviour problems are due to humans and environment so it’s a shame to have put the same label on both dogs.

Re: Tyson
The sister started attacking Tyson, which lead to them both fighting with eachother. This went on until they got rid of the sister but after seeing his aggression with his sister they stopped trusting him around other dogs. In the few days we've had him we've (with permission from the other owners) allowed him on a short lead to sniff other dogs to realise they're not so scary and hes had a wagging tail every time. We even managed to find a bull mastiff and we let them play together for a bit, I think he'll be fine!

Re: Tyson
That’s a sad story but the positive outcome is that he’s part of your family now. Wishing you great adventures together

Re: Tyson
We're a little worried on the whole of type situation, is there anything we can do to be proactive on the situation? Our local pet store suggested to us getting a DNA test and doing the good citizen dog training, after some research I've found not too much info turns up on how to avoid the situation.

Re: Tyson
Certainly try the KC Good Citizen awards if there's a club near you.
I take it he's microchipped and insured? The microchip is the law, but the insurance shows good ownership. Make sure he's good with people & dogs - then you won't go on the 'radar' & you shouldn't get any complaints.
If you want to have a DNA test, by all means do, but they're not always too reliable.
