Hello from Sweden!

Hello!

I have been reading the forum for a few months now, and decided its time to introduce ourselves, My name is Appe and I have a gorgeous 1 year old staffie called Koopa, he's just the loveliest boy, very sweet, gentle, and loving, just brilliant with everyone! Koopa is my first staffie and for me there is no other Breed of dog in the world!! I find myself very shocked by how much public attitude towards staffies is so bad here in Sweden. People actually seem afraid of Koopa when we are out, It's very sad.. if they just took the chance to say hello to him, they would see the beautiful nature staffies possess. Anyway, Im really enjoying all the stories about everyone's fur babies and I just wanted to say hello and looking forward to many different conversations and ideas with you all.

Hi from me & Katy, welcome to our forum Koopa is a gorgeous looking boy The stigma around the breed is unbelievable when you actually know them! It's really caused by bad media
My mum was really worried when I got Katy because of what she had heard from the press! She's is now Katy's biggest fan & loves coming to see her

I got similar situation with my parents but now they look forward to see him more than me and if I don't bring him with me it can feel at times like I'm not welcomed but its so hard to find any friends for him to play with and it breaks my heart like the other day we went to a public dog pen and i asked one lady that was just going out from it if it was ok to release Koopa when i get in and she was a nice lady (whose a dog handler i found out later) and she told me "of course" which i did...LORD did they call their dogs and even one lady picked up her dog like she was in fear and everyone went out and i was left there alone with Koopa, it broke my heart so much because I noticed that Koopa was sooo excited for meeting new dogs and just 30 seconds later everyone was gone.. I don't have kids but i can imagine this feeling being similar to having a kid that gets bullied in school, absolutely heartbreaking. Luckily the lady outside the pen noticed and she brought back her 2 dogs into the pen even though she was on her way home (probably because she felt pity).. thankful for that i am.

But yeah hopefully I can find people here that are close to my area for Koopa to play with.

That's such a shame the people left you alone in the dog park. They are ignorant to the true breed & are led by the stigma
We don't have dog parks here in the UK but if we did I couldn't take Katy there as she's scared of other dogs & will bark & lunge! Again people see that as being aggressive but all she's doing is telling the other dogs to stay away. Luckily we have a friend with 2 Irish setters & she's fine with them.

Well then, sometimes I wish my dog don't want something to do with other dogs but he literally whines when he sees dogs on tv like he wants to play with them. But i try too train him so he doesn't care when we are out but at the same time I want to socialize him early so he don't have any problem with other dogs in his later years.

It’s strange for me because as much as people are curious about Nifty, they are very wary of Opium. I guess in their ignorance, they judge the dogs by what they think they are.

Nifty has been called a bulldog and an American bully whilst Opium has been called a mini rottweiler !

wow such cool pattern on your "rottie" Thanks for the kind words. Funny thing about dog attacks in sweden is that whenever theres a "pitbull" type of dog that attacks or gets outta control they are very quick to point that out but never when its like a golden or some other breed, even though the statistics in sweden show that golden are dominating the attacks here in scandinavia.

Enough with the negativity and hopefully we can focus on our little fur babies and their future being brighter and more lovable than the past.

What is your dogs favorite toys and do you have any suggestions for toys that wont get destroyed the first 5 minutes after they get it ?

The only toys that work for us are big cotton ropes, black extreme kongs, west paw zogoflex toys and the latest discovery, coockoo bumpies.

The only thing that survives here is her Boomer ball, everything else is dispatched!!!!
