Help!
Hi everyone, this is the first time I’ve ever posted anything in my life, but I’ve got so much info on staffs from here I think it’s brilliant. We are hoping to get a staffy of our own, but are new to the breed , in the past we have had a frenchie & a bulldog, both the sweetest you could imagine, sadly lost Dottie at Christmas, she was nine & a half & had cancer, broke our hearts... the house is so empty. We decided we wouldn’t get another dog with a flat face as they suffer so badly with breathing problems, having decided on a staffy, we’re now a little concerned that they are listed as brachycephalic, can anyone here enlighten us as to how likely it is to end up in a similar situation we were in before, it was heartbreaking, Dottie had pallet surgery, but it didn’t make a great deal of difference, any advice would be great, thanks, sal

Re: Help!
Hi from me & Katy Welcome to our forum, so glad you have found it helpful.
Sorry to hear about you losing Dottie I'm sure you gave her a wonderful life! Staffies are a wonderful breed, intelligent, eager to please & unbelievably loving I'm surprised to hear that they are listed as brachycephalic! I've never heard of one with breathing difficulties! Look into breeders thoroughly as there are a lot of backyard breeders out there in it for the money If you want a blue, don't get one from 2 blue parents as they suffer with lots of health issues. Another option would be to get a young rescue
Any questions just shout & we will try & help.

Re: Help!
Hi & welcome to the forum.
Staffords, although classed as brachycephalic, are not at risk of breathing problems. A well bred stafford has sufficient length of muzzle to make breathing no problem whatsoever, so please don't let that worry you.
They're only loosely classed as brachycephalic because their muzzles are shorter, nose to stop, than the length of skull, stop to occiput.
If you research breeders who produce healthy pups and do all the necessary health & DNA tests, you'll be fine.
Whereabouts in the country are you? Have you looked at any breeders yet?

Re: Help!
Hi, thankyou both for your reply , you have reassured me as to breathing problems, we are in East Sussex, I have messaged six breeders about three weeks ago, none have replied unfortunately, we are not after a blue dog, ideally would like a fawn but there don’t seem to be many about? Sal

Re: Help!
It’s hard at the moment with lockdown, I don’t think many breeders are considering litters, unfortunately it’s bad timing :/

Re: Help!
With the covid & lockdown unless the breeder has both parents they would have broken the law with the mating! That & the high demand for puppies of which probably 60% will end up in rescues A fawn would be like finding hen's teeth as the world & his wife want blue! I like blue but don't want one, red's are beautiful but also hard to find!
I will keep an ear out for you as I'm in the same county

Re: Help!
Ha I know, why is blue so popular, especially as I’ve read they can have skin problems, that’s very kind of you to keep an ear out, thankyou, Sal

Re: Help!
Truffle staff are in West Sussex, so shouldn't be too far. There's also Dardanians - they're in Norwood, which isn't exactly close, I know, but doable?

Re: Help!
Just realised that Dardanians on Facebook come under Denise Jayne, and Trufflestaff on FB comes under Christine Hopkins!
