Vomiting
Hi,
Nero is now 10mths old and for the last couple of months has started vomiting.First of all it was regurgitation then being sick.We took him to the vet who gave us some tablets to assist or line his stomach. He was on Purina HA kibble at the time.He still kept being sick, not everyday and not his whole meal. His coat looks fine, still plenty of energy and stools are ok.We changed his food back to a raw food diet, against the vets advice and for two weeks no vomit. Now it’s started again, today three times.I have been told by a breeder it could be Megaesophagus.I am now worried, going to see the vet Friday.
Any thoughts.

Re: Vomiting
Oh gosh, no immediate thoughts other than good luck at the vets tomorrow and firm get well wishes to Nero. I really hope it’s nothing like megaesophagus.
I presume you’ve ruled out the obvious like him eating house plants or other plants in the garden/on walks ?
Nothing in his home environment like kitty litter or an overly shredded toy or supermarket dog treats ?
Is he only being sick around meal times ?

Re: Vomiting
Oh poor Nero Is he a fast eater? It could be a reflux problem, Katy will be sick if she guzzles water!
Let us know how he gets on at the vets

Re: Vomiting
Overfeeding ? You’d see if he’s a “chunky monkey”
You’re down to 2 feeds a day at 10 months old ?
Just wondering if he’s an overly excited live-wire type ?
My Opium is very high energy and when she gets too excited, she’ll wind herself up to almost throwing up. With her it’s stress related.

Re: Vomiting
You could try going back to 3 smaller meals a day & see if that helps?

Re: Vomiting
Went to the vet yesterday and asked for a full MOT.She did a blood test and next week Nero will have an US and an X Ray.I asked her about Megaesophagus and she thought it unlikely as the breed are not known to get it.Agreed it’s not diet so we will have to wait and see.

Re: Vomiting
Blood test was clear, x ray and ultra sound clear. We are going to leave him for a while. The Vet suggested if the sickness continues we should see a specialist.
We have put Nero on adult food, smaller portions and now feeding twice a day.

Re: Vomiting
So after over a year,Nero has been diagnosed with chronic enteropathy.
Just waiting to find out more from his biopsies.
Does anybody else know about this condition.

Re: Vomiting
I have to say that 'chronic enteropathy' meant nothing to me. However, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (which is the human version) does.
After looking through some papers, it appears that vitamin D can help?
What has your vet suggested for long term management?

They have put him on b12 tablets, they are still waiting for biopsy results to come thru to find out what is causing the inflammation.

Re: Vomiting
Good luck. Obviously the vets know best, but it might be worth you reading up on the condition so that a) you can understand the condition & b) if you don't agree with the vet's recommendations you can talk to them about alternatives.

Re: Vomiting
Thanks for update but I admit to knowing very little about this condition.
Hope the biopsy results help you find an effective action plan for Nero
