Clean teeth
So I was watching my trainer work one of her dogs last weekend. Pretty is a border collie, just a year old.
During a retrieve exercise with a wooden dumbbell, I was horrified to see the orange traces of plaque on her teeth. I know she eats a kibble meal once a day.
My girls are 2 and 3 years old and not a trace of plaque.
I am not a doggy toothbrush fairy, my girls just like their regular whimzees and raw carrots.

Re: Clean teeth
Katy has raw bones, carrots, apples & I've just started her on Dentalife chews which are supposed to help clean their teeth. Katy has lovely white teeth & she's nearly 8yrs!

Re: Clean teeth
Some dogs are apparently more prone to it then others too. I had 3 chihuahuas growing up, we used to brush their teeth with doggy toothpaste once a week and their teeth were still really bad. Most of the teeth ended up getting removed during cleaning by the time they hit 11years old we provided lots of chews for them but they were just never interested in them, their mouths were so tiny that most things for teeth cleaning were too big for them so didn’t work well or entertain them much...
Maybe it’s just easier to keep staffies teeth clean since they’re such a natural chewer and have no problem chewing on teeth cleaning things all day long where some other dog breeds don’t like chewing as much

Re: Clean teeth
My vet told me that brushing less than every other day gives no benefits whatsoever.

Re: Clean teeth
I didn’t know that some dogs were more prone, sounds logical though when you think about it.

Re: Clean teeth
Yeah only more prone due to their own laziness, none of my chihuahuas likes chewing things after they stopped teething and we had 3 of them, all completely different personalities one was really playful and loved playing bu more like fetch, she would never want to just relax and chew something.

Re: Clean teeth
My sister had 7 at the height of the pack and I was always amazed that she could leave bits of chews lying around all of the time. Mine would just hoover those up in seconds !
