a Staffies affection
This being my first staffy pup, i was wondering if they get more affectionate as they get older. I previously had a 5yr old rescue staffy and he loved cuddles and anything like that. Silva seems to get annoyed if you pat him when he's trying to rest and moves to another spot or if you try and cuddle him he just bites...? Is this a normal thing?
I am yet to prove how awesome staffies are, and he is not helping..

Re: a Staffies affection
Suki was affectionate when she was a pup and would follow us everywhere. Now she wants her alone time but is still affectionate. All dogs are different but as a breed they are very affctionate.
It might be that he doesn't want to be bothered when he is sleeping. We always leave Suki alone and let her rest unless she falls asleep on one of us

Tilly has changed as she got older , not so keen on being picked up or rolled over or manhandled into position , she wants to be there on her own terms. Saying that she will always come for a cuddle , loves to be sitting in behind me on my pc chair whilst I am working and we swap tongues regularly, just on her terms

It may also be due to the heat at the moment, Steff used to cuddle all the time but she gets annoyed now if I pat her when she is resting but I'm putting that down to her just hot and irritable, like the rest of us I guess you need to imagine how hot it is if you were wearing a fur coat in this weather..

Miley is very loving kisses and cuddles every day. She will tolerate being picked up moved and shoved into various positions. She follows us everywhere. I wouldn't change her either she is our world

We have the AC pumpin at the mo so Steff is very affectionate and kinda cheeky So I put her irritability down to the hot weather

Each dog has a different personality, if thats how he is, thats how he is unfortunately. I don't particularly like cuddles and overaffection, but my friend is never stopping hugging and petting and touching people cause she loves it. Dogs are the same.
There is the old saying too of letting a sleeping dog lie. If you were resting, would you want your dog coming over and jumping on you and playing with you?
He is a rescue so maybe didn't have a lot of human interaction when he was younger. Just let him be himself and come to you for affection when he wants to. Good luck x

Re: a Staffies affection
when we first got Silva we had to keep him quiet for two weeks as we weren't allowed dogs. So i slept with him every night and he was all affectionate. Now we have moved to a dog friendly place and have started to discipline him. So i was worried he kinda had hard feelings towards me.lol (sounds silly).
The heat suggestion does seem to make sense, he does it more during the day then at night. Plus maybe he is just getting to big to fit both of us on the couch.

I don't think it would be that, dogs don't really think that way lol its probably just becoming more independant in his teenage phase and the heat mixed. Just don't make a fuss of it and let him rest. He might grow out of it x

Bacchus is at his most affectionate first thing in the morning. He likes me to sit on the floor with my back against the wall, then he struggles out of his crate ( he's not a morning person) and climbs on my knee and does the moany whimper thing while cuddling in.
He does like to share the settee but prefers contact on his terms when snoozing > .

murphys law. I get home from class tonight and what does Silva do... Comes up on the couch and gets a tummy rub till he sleeps. Mind you, as happy as i was, when he decided to release those unpleasant doggy gasses my need for such closeness soon changed.
