At my wits end
I am in tears here Vinnies rubbing, scratching and skin is making my heart break. I have tried all sorts to no avail. He has deffo been worse since being on a raw diet does anyone think I should take him off it just to see? I would appreciate any advice as as said I am at my wits end its breaking my heart. I will also make an appointment at vets in the meantime T.I.A xx

Re: At my wits end
Sorry to hear this it must be so upsetting for you. What meats are you feeding him? It might be worth just giving chicken for a month and then start reintroducing other meats to see if a certain meat triggers his allergies.

Re: At my wits end
I'd suggest salmon (you can get some good, pre-mixed raw salmon feeds).
I think you're right to stay away from poultry atm. It's one of the worst for intolerances!
Have you tried Piriton? And maybe a damp wipe-down several times a day? You could also try rubbing in some coconut oil daily.
What was he like on kibble? Has it started since you went raw?

Re: At my wits end
So sorry to hear that Vinnie is so uncomfortable.
If you say he’s worse on raw, I would be inclined to try something else.
I am very happy with Opium on fish orijen kibble and Nifty is doing very well on the 2 carnilove fresh kibble : chicken & rabbit or carp & trout.
Alot of kibble is available in small bags so it gives you time to try without wasting if it doesn’t suit

Re: At my wits end
I doubt it's tripe - tripe's a very mild meat & most dogs tolerate it well (even if it does stink!).
How often do you bathe him?

Re: At my wits end
Oh bless him, sounds like he is having a bad time. I agree with changing food. Maybe a kibble will be best, Misty is on Orijen and she loves it.
Last week we had to take her to the vets as Wednesday evening she started nibbling and licking her paws constantly even though there was nothing in there like glass or grass seed etc. We took her to the vet on Friday and she said there's actually nothing stuck in there but the paws are slightly red from self trauma. She has given us Apoquel for two weeks as it could be an allergy but to what we don't know. Since having the tablets she hasn't bothered with her paws at all. When we first got Misty she was covered in dandruff and every summer apart from this she got hives so the vet recommended Piriton but this year she's had nothing so the vet said this could well be an allergy like the other issues were and it's common for dogs in this type of weather. Really hope the vets can help you Inez, it's horrible seeing them uncomfortable xx

Re: At my wits end
Thanks Emma yes afraid he is so sensitive to allergies but also maybe a trauma thing as we have moved house but I will say since eliminating the tripe he has been slightly better think maybe was having too much of it so I will pop a bit in maybe every 3 days just to see and thanks all for your replies xx

Personally I would say that's too often, but I know of people who do the same & have no problems.
Do you bathe him because of the allergies, or were you bathing him monthly before the allergies started?
I'm not saying tripe ISN'T part of the allergies, just that it would be unusual.

Re: At my wits end
Tbh Gilly I never used to bathe him much at all maybe twice a year but its since he has been scratchy over last 12 months have done it more regularly if that makes sense but maybe I would be best to leave him to get some natural oils back?
