Post by 1969kappa Tue Apr 16 2019, 18:37

Hello all
I am new here but I have been a lifelong fan of staffies I have owned 3 myself 1st called Saffie(brindle) a rescue dog but the best behaved dog I have ever seen you could leave your tea on the floor go out and it would still be there when you came back.sadly she was knocked over(I still have flash backs as I saw it).my second was from a pup also called Saffie(tribute)(brindle)she was a thieving little sod would rob the sausage off your fork given chance I had to have her put down 3 years ago(the hardest thing I have ever had to do)she was 13 years old both sadly missed but both are buried in my back garden now I finally gave in to pressure from the wife and kids and bought another one(I didn't want to go through the heart ache again)I now have a red one 17 weeks old and already well ingrained in the family she is wait for it ALSO called Saffie and with a bit of luck she will out live me lol (i'm 49)

Hi.

Have you tried walking out of the room for a couple of minutes every time he nips?

We put him in the hall he calms down for a while but starts again. As he has his big teeth now and he is biting harder

Hi and welcome (both of you!).

Putting him in the hall till he calms down won't have the same effect as you walking away. What he's trying to do is interact with you and get attention. If you walk away the second he nips, literally the very second so he can relate cause and effect, what he will (should!) understand is that he's in fact driven you away, which is the opposite of what he wants. By picking him up and putting him in the hall, the first reaction he's getting is being picked up and cuddled (his perception).
