I'm looking for general advice about Belle coming into season, can someone tell me in general how long they last, any advice about her constantly trying to mount me  rolling on the floor rolling on the floor  when we're play fighting on the floor, I feel for the poor lass, having being single for a while rolling on the floor Also this maybe a silly question but hey, I don't know, can she get pregnant when not in season? as no way could I cope with a litter and I need to take precautions for her sake and mine. so cheers for any advice that comes my way.

First things first - she can't get pregnant out of season!

Seasons last approximately 3 weeks. First, she will appear a bit 'off', she'll get a discharge (with some bitches it's very light, with others it can be quite heavy).

At this stage, dogs will be interested, but she won't & she can't get pregnant

At about 10 days, her discharge will change from blood-tinged to straw coloured & she will act like a complete tart! This is the dangerous time for pregnancy. That stage lasts from about 3 or 4 days to about a week.

After that, you get a short 'wind down' period of a few days.

HOWEVER. All those times are approximate & you should keep her away from dogs from the first sign of her season to at least 3 weeks later - for safety, 4 weeks.

Hormones will rage during those weeks, and some bitches will hump, I'm afraid. All I can suggest is don't get on the floor with her!  Wink

hi Gilly, thanks for the information, at the minute she's at the tart stage Love Struck but she's so lovely I can't get upset with her,she just loves being out on walks she's so nosy so even though I have COPD and have issues going up hills ?I take her out 4/5 times a day and weekends we explore the local country, in an effort to tire and distract her ha! no chance! I've lived here 4 years and never gone out round and about until I got Belle so she's already got me exercising Laughing well thanks again.

Staffords are great listeners! Plus, so many people will stop to say hi, so it gets you mixing as well.

Good luck - we're here if you want anything!
