Dog I'm new and would love staffy advice!

Post by chellepeace Sat Feb 23 2019, 14:53

Hello all!

I'm new to the Forum and not yet a staffy owner. I'm looking for a blue staffy pup, but don't know whether to go for KC registered (I'm UK based) or not - thinking about the hereditary conditions they are prone to, and how best to avoid getting a pup that will be affected.

Any advice much appreciated! Smile

Hello and welcome !

Good choice of the breed, a staffy. Now you just need to find your friend Smile

Already some good advice given.
I personally would recommend KC registered because even if you don’t intend to breed, the breeders would generally ensure all testing has been done.
Is there a particular reason for the blue ? The reason I ask is because, unfortunately, the colour is very much in fashion so you will need to be very very careful in your selection.
Avoid anything that has been bred from 2 blue parents, much higher risk of health problems and future heartache. Ensure L-2hga and HC testing is done, that’s a strict minimum for any staffy.

Good luck and do let us know how you get on

Hi and welcome from me and mine Smile

Great post from Nifty, especially the question why blue in particular? All staffies are great, regardless of the colour of their coat, and sadly the fashion for blue has led to some health problems. I would say you are better focussing on a healthy dog from a breeder who keeps their dogs well, and let the colour be a lesser consideration.

Good luck in your search!
