Hey everyone
Hi everyone, thanks for all your help on my last post. Charlie weighed 5.4kg at the vet yesterday and they say he is in good shape.
Anyway I joined a few days ago and wanted to introduce myself, My name is Zac and I have recently adopted a red/tan staffy named Charlie who will be 10 weeks this Sunday. I am a first time dog owner and it is going better then expected.
of course there are some problems nothing to worry about such as chewing and digging which is to be expected, I have tried using vinegar and coffee to stop him chewing the hose but the bugger pushes through the discomfort and sneezing and still tries to go for it
anyway any advice for swimming or puppies who are energetic but wont walk, will make a post if his walking problems continue, thanks

Re: Hey everyone
Hi and welcome from me and mine!
Try not to stress too much on the puppy stuff, it does tend to fade of its own accord as they grow up. Top tips for chewing - go round the house at Charlie eye level and look for anything he might conceivably chew and, if possible, move it. At that age, they are simply exploring and do so with their mouths. In particular, put anything precious or valuable out of reach, and pay attention to cables. If you can't move cables, unplug them when they're not in use. Make sure he has plenty of toys he can chew and if you catch him with your best shoes, give him something he can have instead. Be careful with things he could swallow.
One thing my dogs love that's fairly safe is a cardboard box. You can put treats in for them to find and they love shredding the box afterwards. Rope toys are good, as are rubber.
Do shout if you're having problems, many of us have been there, done that, and have a look at the info sheets you'll find in the puppy chat section.

Hi & welcome!
The only thing I'd add to Liz's post is not to use coffee as a deterrent. For one, coffee in excess is poisonous to Dogs, and two, caffeine with a puppy is a recipe for disaster! If he's energetic normally, can you imagine what he'll be like with a caffeine fix?

Thanks Gilly and Ian, I should have mentioned earlier I am only using coffee grounds not hot coffee as this was recommended to me and since worked after sprinkling tiny amounts around areas where he digs and chews.
