Dog tags and personalized collars

Do you have your dog’s name on their ID tag or nameplate on collar ?

I’ve just checked again and over here, you have to have owner’s contact details.
Personally I would not put dog’s name in case of theft or unwanted adoption.
A bit of a shame as they do lovely pyrograved leather collars here.
I was already reluctant to put my name on ID tag ...

No, I wouldn't put a dog's name on a tag or a collar. I wouldn't give a thief a helping hand with a name!

Here, we have to have a tag with owner's surname, house no. & postcode & preferably a phone no. And, of course, a microchip.

We have the dog's name, our name, address and my mobile number. I genuinely don't think having a dog's name on a tag would help a thief but it might help reassure the dog. If a thief's got close enough to be able to read the tag, they will already have your dog and won't care a monkey's what it's called but if a good person get hold of her and she's scared, hearing her name might be nice.

If it’s any help to you, on my tags I have my address (with country), my name and my mobile number with international code. We border-hop hence “international” orientation.
TBH, I’m not sure vet’s contact number will necessarily be used. Just as long as the numbers you specify are ones that are easy to dial and where you can easily be reached. That’s my philosophy anyway

To be honest, I wouldn't want my dog to be 'reassured' by a thief. I would prefer him/her to raise a racket & alert everyone around that something's wrong!

I have surname, house name, postcode & mobile number on Katy's. Micro chipping is now a legal requirement here!

The general advice is not to put the dogs name on it, just the contact details in case they are held by any services etc. Stanley's got my name and address and phone number with a simple SBT at the bottom in case anyone with an itchy trigger finger decides he's something he isn't. Someone asked me if he was a Labrador the other day. Frightening what some people come out with sometimes.

I had my surname address and mobile number on mias id tag the pet shop owner said it wasnt a good idea to put my dogs name . Id put her name on microchip obvioudly the time the law came into force she wad too old

We don't have Bug's name on her tag, but Liz's advice about it possibly being reassuring for a person to know her name if she were to get lost is certainly food for thought! I'd say she's more likely to get lost than stolen. We have our surname, address and phone number on ours
