Staffy cross
Hi everyone. I have just recently got a 7 month old staffy. A colleague of mine said it looks like she has some pit in her which has made me worried because of the dangerous dogs act. Both my partner and I think she looks like a staff and this is what the previous owner has told us also. I was just hoping for a second opinion. I have attached a couple of photos below.

Hi there - welcome to the forum.
I'm afraid the pics haven't shown up, but most of the time people don't have a clue what a pitbull looks like anyway!

Re: Staffy cross
Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
It's a shame the pics didn't show but I doubt very much that you'll have a pit cross. As you'll be aware, pits have been banned in the UK for some time now and are very rare so the odds that you have a pit cross is just about zero.
Whoever said that your Staff looks like it has pit in it should hold fast as a dog at 7 months will change considerably in any case, so certainly no expert there.
Try posting the pics again

Re: Staffy cross
Hi and welcome from me and mine
It is a shame the photos haven't come up because I want to see a cute 7 month old staffie cross!!! Please try again
The important thing to remember (and maybe to pass on to your collegue) is that what is banned in the UK is a dog that looks like a pitbull. To quote DEFRA 'Whether your dog is a banned type depends on what it looks like, rather than its breed or name.' You can get staffie crosses that end up getting caught in the net, you can get lab crosses that would fit the measurements.
So even if (big if) a dog does have some pit in them, the result may still not be a pit type according to the law.
I'm afraid that people are very quick to see pit in anything bull breed, and most of the time it's because they don't know what they're talking about. Sadly it's something that most of us have had to put up with somewhere along the way.

No, no pics showing
I don't know how you tried, but have a look at this:

Sometimes, for a mysterious reason known only to the forum hosting, you have to wait a few days before posting photos. It's possible it's picked on you.

Re: Staffy cross
Oh she is gorgeous! Maybe it's just me but I think I see a bit of boxer in her? It doesn't matter though just always say she is a Staffy x and ignore anyone who says pit bull.

Re: Staffy cross
Hello and welcome from us.
Isn’t she just a sweetie !
I’d also be seeing much more boxer than any pit in there.
Agree with the others, she’s staffy cross and beautiful.

Can you get a photo of her standing up, side on? It'll give a much better idea of her build.

Re: Staffy cross
From the length of her leg I'd say she's a cross, not a full staffie. Puppies can change so much as they grow up and in particular as they fill out so it's really hard to say where she'll end up in a year or two. However, I don't see enough there to say 'oh yes, definitely part pitbull', so I wouldn't worry too much. As always, the best advice is to do plenty of positive training, let everyone see what a fab dog she is, and as with any bull breed try and avoid her running up to other people or dogs that you don't know well.

Re: Staffy cross
yes, it's so difficult to say what she's crossed with as she'll continue to change over the next year/18 months.
In the photo on the stairs I'm sure i can see a shadow of boxer? The length of leg would probably support that as well. But as Liz says, not enough similarities to a pitbull to worry me.
There's a lovely girl goes to our local park who has a boxer x stafford cross & she's very similar to yours although heavier - but then she's 3 years old!

Re: Staffy cross
To put it bluntly, you can get a "pitbull" type from a Labrador and a boxer mating, so the law is basically irrelevant. Just focus on your lovely dog and make them a good member of society so there is no issues to be had. And for what its worth, i don't think she looks anymore pitbull than a chihuahua would. Some UK folk like to scare others/seem like a "cool in the know" type person by claiming a dog is a pitbull when really its just a load of bluff. Enjoy your dog, no matter the breed.

The law is not irrelevant. Stupid, yes, but it's the law. To say it's irrelevant means that you can ignore it - and you can't.
