Hi, it's me and the brown dog.
He everyone, I have a male staffy of 2 years old, inherited from a family member I already have another dog but I did not want to see this boy going to a rescue and not knowing what would become of him. However, his over excitable nature and his habit of eating poo drives me crazy at times.

Re: Hi, it's me and the brown dog.
Hello and welcome from us.
He’s lucky to have you, well done on taking him on.
Does he have a name btw ?
I’d be very curious to see what that cross breeding gives

What gorgeousness!
For my one, the more exercise he gets, the less excitable he becomes. Also, he's a lot less ditsy at 3 1/2 than he was at 2 1/2, so hopefully your boy'll calm down more too.
Does he try to get your other dogs to play too much?

Isn’t he sweet.
He almost looks a bit like a boxer in the photo as an adult.

Re: Hi, it's me and the brown dog.
Thank you for your comments everyone. He does try to get my other dogs to play with him but the only one who is not too old is 9 yrs old now, and will play up to a point, but he really is not fit for the antics of such a young strong dog and he has his own health problems. Fortunately, I can take Jax for a play date once a week, with my niece's dog who is a young German shepherd bitch. They are fit for each other.

Re: Hi, it's me and the brown dog.
Wow.. What a handsome lad.
Welcome to the forum from Flo and me
Back to your original question, you need to make the poo eating less desirable than the treat you have in your hand, when you see him going for that poo have a real high value treat like sausage or if flush frankfurter. What you want him to do is decide, poo or sausage.
Its not going to be an instant win but over time you'll be able to distract him with a tastier option to the poo and he will eventually lose interest in eating it

Re: Hi, it's me and the brown dog.
Thanks for the advice . I thought I had cured him of it months ago., by catching him just before he eats it, and he only needed to be kept an eye on but he goes around sniffing the verges and the garden again now. Dirty little horror. I will try to remember to carry some high value treats with me.
