Sniffing on walks
Right,
I know this isn’t a major issue but need to try and tackle this so I don’t look like I’m being cruel to hank.
He is obsessed with locking down and sniffing absolutely every other dogs pee we come across on a walk, his ears shut off as he will not stop when I say any of the command he knows and in the end up I have to move him from the patch he’s sniffing, when he’s walking normal I call him to look at me and give him a treat when he does in the hopes it will stick when he gets a good patch but it doesn’t.
Any tips on this? Or just keep trying with calling his name etc?

I would keep up with the treat tactic but you might need to up the treat value to something really really tasty as it sounds like the regular ones aren't winning the battle

We have noticed that Gus is less interested in marking his territory and sniffing other dogs wee since he was neutered.

Re: Sniffing on walks
Misty sniffs everything on walks, I'm happy when she sniffs as it means she's chilled out and not worrying about her surroundings. I understand it can be very frustrating though and I do have to ask her to move sometimes if we are causing a pavement blockage!
In the vary rare occasions she ignores a treat then we have learnt that a quick squeak of her tennis ball can get her attention.

I'm the same as Emma. Unless we're in a hurry or there's a car coming and we're on a lane, I let them sniff. I mean, you wouldn't want Hank dragging you off the forum before you're finished reading, would you?

I let Dodger have a reasonable time sniffing, then I tell him to 'Walk On'. It works sometimes, but if it's a really interesting sniff nothing works. They are a very stubborn breed!

Yeah if I’m in no rush i just leave him too it, as I know he’s sniffing “pee-mail” and I’m assuming is the Girl wee he loves sniffing haha.. it’s just in the morning when I need to get back to get ready for work so just needed something to budge him on when he’s locking down for long in particular areas haha.. the squeaky ball sounds like a good idea so I’ll try that on Monday

They do love a serious sniff, Katy will near enough be down on her shoulder trying to sniff a spot if I keep the lead tight It is their local newspaper but a bit annoying if you are short on time
