Light duties
Katy developed a limp last week, not on our walk but after we got home! I checked all down her leg (rear left) no reaction, I got to her foot & she growled so I thought ok sore foot. She seemed fine the next day & was good on our walk but that evening after resting she couldn't put any weight on it I checked again even her foot, no reaction. Fine again the following morning Good all weekend, then Monday we had a good run & she was limping again after resting, so knowing she was due for her vaccination I booked her in the vets on Wednesday. vets says her knee joint is slightly swollen & she must have twisted it the way staffies charge about Hubby had a quiet game that evening with her, everything fine she jumped on the sofa but when she got down she caught het leg in the throw!!Just had to be her sore leg Knowing her pain tolerance, Katy screamed What a horrible thing to hear, light duties again today only going out on lead. She is happily in frog leg style chewing her bone now but will limp when she gets up Obviously this will now be an ongoing problem, so the vet says so will be keeping a closer eye on my girl

Re: Light duties
Sorry to hear that she has unsoundness issues but she's so gorgeous that keeping a closer eye on her shouldn't be too much of a burden at least

Re: Light duties
It's certainly not a burden but having to lie to her when I have to walk her friends is horrible & I really miss her not running with us. Her health come 1st & foremost here

Re: Light duties
I wonder if it is something catching between white and brindle staffies? I have one of those too. Not quite the same but intermittent lameness on his front right. It seems to be made worse by walks, blasting round the garden chasing bunnies and stoats, and digging rat holes. And not listening when mummy says 'don't, you'll hurt yourself again'.
Good luck keeping her quiet, or at least better luck than we're having!

Re: Light duties
Aww, poor Katylove.
It's so hard to stop them from rampaging about, especially when they get off lead in the park. If I get Gizzy warmed up a bit with walk-walking and a trott, I feel like he's less likely to damage his legs but it's so hard once he's spotted a squirrel...or a ball...or a glitzy-looking patch of grass...

Re: Light duties
I have been letting her run as quiet road walks still have her limping So I have been running & resting her as I don't want her putting on weight. She doesn't seem in any pain as I run my hand down her leg with no reaction, so I just need to keep a close eye on her.

Re: Light duties
She doesn't show any signs of a problem when out Liz, but after resting she will be limping for a while a bit like us when we stiffen up I suppose. I will keep a close eye on her & run her when she seems to be ok.

Re: Light duties
Is it worth doing some stretches when you get back from walks, Jen? I'm a huge believer in stretches, I know I benefit from them.

Re: Light duties
That's such a shame - Leah trampled over a hidden broken bottle two weeks ago so there's been several trips to the vet for stitches, dressings etc.
She's not to have any walks and she's going crazy trying to get rid of the excess energy. The poor soul doesn't understand why she can't have her usual walks and I'm getting the sad eyes treatment!
It's a while since I've had a dog and the vet fees have been eye watering!

Re: Light duties
Poor lass, it's so hard for them, isn't it? How much longer does she have without walks?
And yes, vets fees can be
Licks and cuddles from us!

Re: Light duties
Looks like another week at least- got to keep the dressing dry. I tried a short walk using those little moonboot things but it got shredded after a few minutes walking on the pavement.
I've found her kong toy to be useful, she goes daft with that to try and burn up some energy. I miss her walks every bit as much as Leah does!

Re: Light duties
If she likes that sort of thing, try her with a Kong Jumbler. Some dogs shred them quickly but they do seem to last for lots of dogs. Chaos has been on semi rest for 10 now so I bought him a new one (the old one lasted 2 years!) and he's in heaven.

Block your ears, it squeaks!

Still having the same problem with Katy's leg can you get anti inflammatory's over the counter for dogs? If so any names to look for?

Re: Light duties
The squeak on the new Kong Jumbler has just died - it did last a week though. The last ball, although silent, did just go on and on!
I don't think there are any over the counter anti-inflammatories. It's why I always keep leftovers.
Is it maybe time for a trip to the vet for Katy?

Re: Light duties
Yes Liz I think it might be, I was trying to avoid Metacam for as long as I could but another visit is on the cards. She isn't showing signs of pain as I can handle her leg with no reactions, her foot the other day was a different issue ( like avoiding a snapping turtle)
