During human meal times ...
... where are your dogs and what are they doing ?
Also, do they eat before, at the same time, or after house humans ?
I always said no noses or paws on the dinner table.
Nifty's meal times are different to ours and she's either in her play pen in another room, or outside whilst we eat.
How about you ?

Re: During human meal times ...
The dogs have their tea at 6, we eat later. I don't go in for all this 'dog have to wait till humans have eaten' business, very Jan Fennell/dominance stuff.
In theory, they are allowed to be near us when we eat as long as they don't beg. I'm stricter on this than my husband is and I'll often catch Nola gazing up at him during breakfast when I'm not there! We have dog beds all over the place, including in the conservatory and kitchen, and the first sign of begging the offender is asked to go an lie on a bed.
So if you want you can have Nifty in the same room, just be clear that she has to go and lie away from you.

Re: During human meal times ...
Hank is a begger around food so I put his tea down the same time as we have ours and keep him in the kitchen while we eat, he's getting used to this being the way we do it and often takes himself into the kitchen himself the odd occasion when I put our food on the table. It's always been a massive gripe for me when I've been at friends houses and their dogs are at you feet staring up at you eat so from the start we said no to him being in the same room.

Gus doesn't even bother looking at me for scraps but he won't take his eyes off my wife as he knows she is a soft touch. It's actually something we are currently working on as I don't want him begging.

Re: During human meal times ...
Chase stays in his crate while we eat at the moment until he's learnt some more manners.
Matt works late so comes home and eats while he relaxes in the front room instead of eating in the kitchen.
A few times he's forgotten to put Chase away before bringing his food in but all Chase did was sit there and look up at him. Once he realised he wasn't getting anything he walked off to chew his bone.
Probably helps that Chase isn't really fussed about food!

Re: During human meal times ...
my first dog had specific feed times, whereas we didn't. But we made sure that when we ate she would be laying down on the other side of the room with her head down on her paws.
she was never allowed to beg.
