Lexi has the C
So after my last post Lexi didnt get much better, and vet had a good look at her and felt a large lump inside. He believed it was liver or spleen...and about the size of a grapefruit.
So considering how fast its come up, and the location/size/age of dog etc, hes pretty certain its cancer. Aggressive cancer. He has said if we make it to Christmas we will be doing a very good job.
We have got some painkillers and probitotics to give every day and have been told to feed her whatever it is she fancies eating that day in small meals (like the size of a can of tuna is all she can manage at the moment) but he basically said make her comfortable and he will be seeing us soon enough.
I'm totally heartbroken. I know shes had a good long life and is lliving every dogs dream of lying in front of the fire with a full belly and a snuggle but still..shes my first little pup and likely to be my last and now i might not even get to christmas...
Whats making me more than anxiosu now is that we have a holiday booked in Nov. My Aunty house sits so lexis life won't be uprooted so to speak, but i dont know if she can be left 2 weeks not knowing if shes getting worse and needs pts or if shes doing okay. Aunty can be trusted to look after her but (as you would be with another persons dog) you dont want to be the one to say i think shes had enough. And i would be utterly devastated if i was not there with her at the end. I will just have to wait and see how she is at the time, if she seems like shes going down hill badly, i won't be hesitating to have her resting before i go on holiday, although my absolute final wish is to get to chrsitmas...she loves christmas...

I really am so sorry to read this, it's brought me to tears. It's obvious how much you love her. I really hope she can have another Christmas with you, but then again who says Christmas has to be on Dec 25th. You can have Christmas early this year. Thinking of you both x

Yes that is my thoughts too, i have a "christmas" planned in my head box for her if she gets more poorly. Well have presents and turkey with stuffing and have her favorite visitors over to have a fuss. might even break out the reindeer suit and santa hat she loves. My poor wee baby

Oh I'm so sorry .
Celebrate Christmas, celebrate Lexi, any day you like, or indeed every day.
Where are you going on holiday, is it somewhere you could come back from at short notice, or close enough that you could go for only part of the time?

oh, Hayley, I'm so sorry to read this.
if it's the sort of holiday that can be cancelled at short notice then I'd wait and see.

I'm so saddened for you after reading this.
Cancer does have a way of reminding us of the importance of the "here and now". Take the time to live the instant.
Alot of things can happen between now and the end of year

So sorry to read this Hayley. I think all you can do is as you are, each day at a time and see nearer the holiday, I know I would be feeling as anxious as you are

We are sailing across the atlanic to america, so basically we have no contact to anyone at all in any type of emergency for at least a week, then sporadically. I will be leaving the boat number for her but im not sure how easy or hard it is to phone a boat....

Thank you. I have spoke to quite a few people who have said the vet said their own dogs has weeks to live then they have gone on to live years! SO i can only live in hope that she stays comfortable as long as we can keep her so.
Thank you everyone, its hard to come to terms with but at the same time shes 13 over average age which is awesome. And bar the little blip in her tummy, shes as active and loving as any dog. Def does not look her age and as i said is enjoying life in her warm bed.
