Big hello from me & Lexi x
Hello everyone,
I have just joined the forum, my name is Jaymie and I have my baby Lexi who is 9months old blue staffy.
I come across this forum via facebook and searching for information on demodectic mange.
I have posted pics from the day we got her up till now, we have had a tough time since having her as we didn't know much about mange, we had 3 different opinions from vets, she recovered really well and her coat grew back lovely, she had a season and it has come back again and she has lost her fur in places once again
She has such a funny character already and we love her to bits!
Here are some photos x

Hi, yeah she is however there are many other colours in her blood line and she has had many scrapings from the vets and she has also had lots of treatment that kills demodex mites.
She has courses of antibiotics along with a ivomec injection once a week for 3weeks. This works really well until the treatment course ends then it comes back so we think this may be an ongoing problem till she reaches immunologic maturity or so we have been told by the vet.

Hi, no we bought her from bishops stortford, however i was going to view pups in the colchester area but they wanted me to leave a deposit and pick a pup on the day they were all ready to go. If I remember right they were a litter of 9 or 10. x

Yes it is definitely demodex mange, we got her as her immediate bloodline was blue, there was blacks and browns in her 5 generation pedigree papers.
We have tried getting in contact with her breeder however we have had no replies.
I know breeding blues together increases health problems if done repeatedly through generations but this wasn't the case with Lexi.

Re: Big hello from me & Lexi x
Hi & welcome to the forum. Lexi's a beauty!
It doesn't have to have been all through her history - just her parents. Breeding blue to blue can lead to CDA which is mainly characterised by hair loss.
However, if your vet has taken skin scrapings & definitely confirmed that it's Demedectic Mites, then that's different.

Hi, thank you
The vet has advised it is something she will grow out of as her immune system is just taking longer to develop than usual.
He said as she was the runt of her litter it perhaps hasnt helped.
He expects her to make a full recovery however we are finding it very frustrating as it doesn't look comfortable for her even though she is a very happy dog. x

Re: Big hello from me & Lexi x
She's lovely, that puppy face is adorable!. I got my Esme at 8 weeks and never knew about the demodex .. Her head, legs and most of her chest were nearly completely bald, it's horrible to see them go through it though:(. I'm glad Lexi recovered she has a gorgeous coat, mine fully recovered too after a lot of hassling vet appointments! x

Re: Big hello from me & Lexi x
hey yeah thats where i got mine from had a right nightmare needless to say i found out after i drove from bournemouth and paid my deposit and chose my dog i'd be picking on the day so a total waste of time going up there needless to say i did get my chosen dog unfortunately i was lied to about health checks and vet checked i got her home she was underweight and ill but i couldn't leave her there,i told her she was ill and required treatment she offered me £200 but it never turned up she moved house now, just in it for the money 10 dogs 650 each!!! no vet bills to pay no health checks and just fed them the same crap as they fed the parent but seeing my pup like that there was no way i was leaving her, luckily for me all it took was a few vet trips and a great diet and she's in great health and already winning at shows,it's hard bringing your bundle of joy home then finding out it's ill it ruins the whole new puppy experience replacing it with worry i found it really hard but couldn't bring myself to return her at the time,it will get better as you see small signs of improvement but i know it's not the same as bringing home a healthy pup,i really wish you all the best

Hi, thats so nice to hear that your girl is all ok now, I just don't understand how they can do this to people, it really has been such a hard time.
When we contacted the breeders you got your girl from they seemed very desperate to get rid of their pups (their words) as they were moving home.
They pestered all week for us to come see them in the end we told them straight we didnt like the idea of picking a pup on the day and we would leave it.
when i went to see pups from lexi's breeder i fell in love with her, the breeder told me that her mum and dad were down the road when i asked to see them. he wasn't an overly friendly person and i didnt want to question to much as i was in a strangers house! something wasnt right but i had to have her and im so glad i did with problems or without.
i wish you all the best too x

Re: Big hello from me & Lexi x
i was the same i just had to get her away from these people it was an awful time but i argued i had chosen my pup that was what i was getting no matter what, she even calle late on a sunday night saying there was an emergency with my pup i had to collect her immediately it was a 8 hour drive there and back at 9 in the evening i had work at 5 i was torn but couldn't go i waited nervously for news on my pup but nothing so at 8 in the morning the following weekend i was on her doorstep "rescuing" my pup i felt angry at paying so much to "rescue" a dog but knew in my heart i had to for her sake,it was a horrid first few weeks there was no joy in it at all just worry but now at the end of it 9 months old i'm glad i took her yes she's nuts as i couldn't start training as early as i'd have liked too and took her away at 8 weeks not 12 which is what i wanted (better for early socialising) but i don't regret it.
best of luck with lexi she's a beautifull girly, maybe a raw diet may help with her skin?

Re: Big hello from me & Lexi x
Hello, I thought I would post an update on Lexi.
First of all I can say so proudly that she is the healthiest & happiest she's ever been, her demodex is no longer taking its toll on her skin. However I do believe it is something that she will always have its just how to control it.
After many many visits to the vets we was trying injections creams & tablets.
Although it controlled it short term we needed to find and option that would be long term as we couldn't afford the vet bills.
After much research me and my partner learned that mites feed of the starch that's in their food, so we had to find a food that contained 0% starch!
It was hard but we come across a company called Natural Instinct.
It's a raw food diet that she is fed twice a day, it's helped massively and I have attached a photo for you all to see the difference.
I also feed my 10 year old lab who was diagnosed with coloitus that played absolute havoc on his tummy and his stools were terrible, he is also on raw food diet and he is so much better & more active etc.
Thank you all for your previous posts & hope this helps another owner that may have the very unfortunate case of their pup having demodex, it was a very frustrating & heartbreaking time but now we have two amazing healthy dogs and very proud parents
P.s hope I attached the photo properly, partner is at work & I'm rubbish at this lol

Ahhh poor Lexi, she certainly looks much more happy and comfortable now. You must have been so relieved to find something that worked for her apart from all the medication. Well done to you for persevering with her, I'm sure your experience will help others too, thanks for sharing Lexi history.
