Finally something good is happening!
We have an appointment with a trainer today ... Yay!
She sounded very upset about him once I explained Chases issues but she thinks he is teachable, it's just gonna take a while. She was also concerned about him being like that around the children and agreed it was best they were kept separate for the time being.
In her words she said he sounds like an "undisciplined teenager and a bit of a thug" ... Perfect description!
Fingers crossed we find a breakthrough with him today! I'm at last a little bit hopeful.

Re: Finally something good is happening!
Fantastic news! I'm so happy for you. I fully believe any dog no matter how old can learn good behaviours with the right teacher.
I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Re: Finally something good is happening!
Well ...
Chase Will be staying with us! He might be a little git at the moment but he's our little git and we're all now rather attached to him.
The trainer got out her clicker and he instantly knew what to do so I think maybe somewhere along the line he's been clicker trained which is good for us!
She even thinks he's about two years old so we're through the worst of anything that could be bad.
By Christmas we'll hopefully have a very different dog, or at least one that will listen if nothing else.
I'm so relieved!
I'd post a picture but I don't know how?
Yay for Chase!!!

Oh phew!
I've been worried all day since you said the trainer described him as a thug. It's not at quite what I'd want to hear, I see animals as behaving as they feel is their best way to cope in situations that worry them. They really don't have any other way until we show them how.
But out with the clicker - yes, fantastic! It's a brilliant way of giving them something positive to do for a clear reward, and you'll learn a lot from it too.
Here's how to post photos

Can't wait to see the young (but not quite so young!) man.

It worried me too but I think it's just cos everything is still so new to us all.
In the time he's been with us he's learnt that jumping up gets him nothing until he's sat like a good boy.
I'm excited to train him now I know he's willing to learn. We just need to find out what makes him tick as he's (fortunately for us) not very food driven. I can feed him in the morning and most of his food will still be sat there until I top up his bowl after we've eaten at four pm.
I'm Try post a picture of him now.

You should be able to use the first one, it's through one of the icons just above the reply box, the 4th from the right on the top line.

It doesn't seem to want to work on my phone for some reason.
