Koda has epilepsy
Devastated. 5 seizures in 12 hours, out of the blue! Long visit to vet today, twice daily meds, back in two weeks to see how he's tracking and rule out possibility of brain tumour. Still can't get my head around it.

Oh hell Bek! I'm not surprised you can't get your head around it. I'm not too sure what to say, stunned. You know I'll be thinking about you all the time, don't you?

oh. god, you must be out of your mind with worry!

Oh Bek, so saddened by this news.
Hope the meds kick in and you quickly pin down the how and why in order to find a long term solution.
Thinking of you both

Re: Koda has epilepsy
To be honest homeopathy is the sale of overpriced water combined with sugar to turn into tablets. There is zero proof ANYWHERE reputable they work as anything other than a placebo. It was invented by someone who was concerned about chemicals being overused by the medical profession (fair enough) but as it doesn't actually work, it's the same as doing nothing.

Re: Koda has epilepsy
Homeopathy has its place alongside traditional veterinary medicine.
However, diagnosis is paramount - NOBODY should totally discount veterinary advice without good reason.
Some (if not all) types of idiosyncratic epilepsy cannot be alleviated without medication. Anyone who advises alternative therapy without a full, direct examination & diagnosis is a charlatan.

Re: Koda has epilepsy
we're going to have to agree to disagree when it comes to homeopathy specifically. As far as I am aware there is zero scientific evidence that it works at all. 'alternative' as in herbal medicine is a whole different kettle of fish. lots of studies show various herbal remedies work.
absolutely agree with your second and third points.

Re: Koda has epilepsy
So sorry I haven't been on much ! Thank you all for your messages, it's so nice to know we're not alone in this journey. Within 24 hours the seizures stopped completely ! He has half a tablet morning & night and that's it. What a difference !! Only difference is he has been eating like a horse (seriously like he's starving non-stop), we have been feeding him nearly twice as much as he's actually hungry (vet said this is ok til we meet again end of next week). Not sure if the hunger is from the meds or the new food as started both on the same day (wouldn't have if we'd known the seizures were coming!!). Thanks again everyone

I'm so glad to hear the seizures have stopped. It would be fab if your vet has got meds spot on right away. Thanks for letting us know x

Re: Koda has epilepsy
Yeh fingers crossed eh ! Go back end of next week (4 weekly check up), they'll test bloods to check his something-a-rather levels (yes that's a technical term ha!!), as concerned the meds are impacting on whatever these levels are and of course the rapid weight gain, and also do a scan to rule out a tumour. Fingers crossed !
