Even pros are getting it wrong
Just got back from the vet for Nifty's vaccinations.
Vet assistant, who also helps to run a local canine club, warned vet that Nifty is a 2nd category dog.
But the law clearly mentions the Staffordshire Bull Terrier as "unable to be considered as a dangerous dog".
So vet (specialized in large animals) told me that to be sure, I should treat Nifty as 2nd category (muzzled, special insurance, behaviour evaluation, declare to local town hall, etc ).
I didn't particularly want a pure bred dog with papers but went down that route to ensure that my canine friend wouldn't have these obligations.
If even professionals don't know or understand (and especially those running a canine club ), not really helping the novice or those without the ability to argue back.
*and breathe*

Re: Even pros are getting it wrong
I would say it's a bit like the old saying "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" but in this case they should really know better

Re: Even pros are getting it wrong
Yes, I can change vets but in terms of medical care, I have no particular problem.
The vet himself can sort of be pardoned but the assistant who runs a canine club ??? That's why I always have a copy of the law with me, for education purposes

to be honest, if there's a vet in that practice who thinks that staffords are 'dangerous dogs', then I'd change, even if the veterinary care is good. vets (and their assistants) should be up to date with that sort of thing - there's no excuse not to be!

Well I suppose a vet erring on the safe side is better than a laxist one who doesn't even care about that kind of possibility for his patients. However the vet assistant who runs a canine club SHOULD know better and should not give false information to vet, who openly admits when he's not sure.
I consult a veterinary practice for their expertise and knowledge in animal care, not just for their in-depth knowledge of all of the specific breeds of animals that they might meet.
But hey, each to his own
