Post by Paris1990 Wed May 24 2017, 20:02

Hank just went out for a poop and half of it was black like really back, it was quite running too, is this something for me to worry about, he seems okay but I have noticed he hasn't been full of beans the last couple of days like he usually is Sad but still jumping up and wagging his tail and playing around but he's also just sitting on his own for abit too.

Have you given him anything different to eat lately as pups have delicate stomachs?

That could be it, any change of food should be done gradually over a couple of weeks! Are you getting his usual food soon?

I'd put money on the change in poo will be down to the change in food. As for not quite being his usual bouncy self, think how warm it is these last couple of days, it's ok for us we can take clothes off our pooches can't, except for my Flo who has a nice bald patch on her back just now.

Yeah ordered his food on Monday I thought it would have been here by now but haven't had an email letting me know :/ might try find out what's going on.. yeah true he's still eating and refusing what we are putting down for him, but has occasional moments where I think he looks sad and he's just sat on his own outside or goes to the other side of the sofa.

Yes,without a doubt the cause is because the change of diet, and in doing that it can also upset the little tummy a bit.If in an emergency you have to change from his usual diet try something that you know has agreed with him in the past.

Perhaps order more of your dogs usual food so with mia i orderd hers online id wait till she had half a bag and order her another bag. Its hard to judge food when they are pups. If your dog is eating his food more quickly might be time to changd him to adult food perhaps the puppy isnt catering to his needs anymore. As always i say gradually introduce them to a new food so their stomach adjusts. Smile

Yeah last time I ordered I didn't predict he would grow so much Laughing so had to increase his food, I have ordered double this time so that should do him until payday next month, But will double check in the middle of the month just so we don't have this again.

Argh... Frustrating with the ear Sad

There's two schools of thought with feeding issues like this. One is to leave the bowl down for a limited time and then take it away, the thought being that if it's gone he'll learn that he needs to eat when it's there or go hungry.

The second is to just let him graze and eat as and when he feels like it. The treats could be adding to the problem as he obviously loves treats more else they wouldn't be called treats would they Laughing so maybe ease off on those.

I know Sad the vet said to go back if it didn't clear with the drops, I thought it was going too as it had cleared right up Sad will have to wait until Monday now so need to keep a close eye on him scratching.

I've just got him to eat a good bit of food out of my hand,, which was gross but he ate so I'm happy.. just don't know what's going on with him.

Gus goes through stages of not being fussed about his food. The first time it happened I went out to buy new food, new bowls, we cooked him fresh food and even tried hand feeding him. I was so worried. Then all of a sudden he starts eating again. I get less worried now as he eats again once he is ready.

Yeah I was mainly worried because he's an absolute greedy little thing before he stopped, but now I know he will actually eat his food I'll just leave him too it, unless he eats absolutely nothing I'll intervene.

To be honest that's what I would do, I've yet to meet a Staffy that goes on hunger strike for more than 24 hours.
