Lumps and bumps
Hi all,
I am new to this forum but I must say it has definitely been helpful and lots of fun when questioning anything to do my Staffy, Bonnie. She has put me through so much stress lately after partially tearing her cruciate and needing an emergency spay due to an infection! After a cuddle last night I found a hard lump (under the skin, not really visisble unless she's is laying on her side) on her left side of ribs, not far from her armpit. Has anyone had any experience with this? I have already contacted my vet but in the meantime, I am looking for some peace of mind! I don't believe it could be a fatty limpoma as it is very hard. Very worried about my girl, she is only 3 years old as of next month

Re: Lumps and bumps
It does sound like you've been through the mill a bit.
It is a question of waiting for the vet, I'm afraid, and keeping fingers crossed till then. Mine are crossed for you too.

My girl has lots of little lumps and bumps but the best thing is a visit to the vets. I can imagine how worried you must be.

Re: Lumps and bumps
My vet has advised that we just monitor the lump for any changes. I hate that response as I'm still on edge worrying! However, he has never been wrong with Bonnie and doesn't seem too concerned. I guess I'll have to do my best to stay positive!

Re: Lumps and bumps
Hello! My girl Bug has had so many lumps and bumps over the years - the first was unfortunately a malignant melanoma (which was removed quickly, with margins). She has had 4 removed since, the most recent 3 weeks ago - and they have all been benign! One was a wart, one was just lumpy pigmentation and two were just hair follicles with overactive cells basically.
You do have the option of a fine need aspiration to check for any nasty cells if you don't want to remove, but the lump needs to be big enough. My vet has always recommended to remove, just because of Bug's cancer history, but they have always said that they are not concerned, and they have always been right.
Wishing you lots of luck!

Re: Lumps and bumps
Back to the vet today as the lump has changed slightly in just a few short days. Hoping the vet will take further analysis now as I am very worried about my girl. Thanks for your advice everyone! Will update how she is going soon.

Re: Lumps and bumps
Hi all, good news! Vet is 100% sure the lump is non cancerous and simply a reaction to the pain medication and injection given during her emergency spay. He said they see this happen quite frequently and it can take up to two - four weeks for the lump to appear but it will settle after a few weeks. I didn't push for further tests as my vet seemed very confident and has never been wrong so far. She was only speyed 3 weeks ago so will continue to keep an eye on it anyway until the lump goes down. Thanks for your support!
