Crying First mobile phone down

Post by Paris1990 Tue May 09 2017, 10:33

Hank has been so good lately.. but obviously that was all too good to be true as last night he ripped some of the living room wallpaper off while we were in the same room! (which hasn't been up long) and got my backpack down from the kitchen counter emptied my full bottle of water everywhere and destroyed my phone :'( He got his first proper telling off from me and his little sad face broke my heart! I'm no good and being bad cop Crying or Very sad

Don't worry about being the bad cop, telling off achieves very little positive learning anyway but instead teaches that you can be worrying. Just put it down to experience and learn that he can and will reach things from there.

Wallpaper - it can sometimes be the glue that attracts them, ditto with flooring adhesive. If it happens again, spray the areas he can reach with something that masks the smell or tastes vile (nothing toxic, though!).

Keep on being good cop, it's the best way.

I have a no chew spray that has been working but I do need to keep spraying it as after so long he goes back, we are in the middle of changing the skirt boards so the old ones are off so wallpaper is loose a bottom so hopefully ones the skirting is put on there wont be anything for him to pull at!

My OH says I need to tell him off more but it's not in my nature even with people or situations that inconvenience me I have the patience of a saint Laughing but him breaking my phone last night tipped me over the edge

Hmmm what model of phone was it ??

With things that he gets at, if you can, remove it from him and replace it with something he is allowed to shred/chew, a favourite toy or ragging rope and play with him. That way you reinforce that wallpaper or books don't get played with but his toy does.

Iphone 6, Luckily I can get it fixed at local phone repair shop for £65 I was in a panic thinking it would be well over £100 as I got a quote last year for £170! I will now be taking out insurance if this is to ever happen again.

We were out of the house when he got my bag and phone so didn't know until we had got back in and seen the bag on the floor and a very sorry looking pup! he's quite good with the toy replacement whenever he get too bitey with us or takes anything else. But yeah the wallpaper was right in front of us and we were so shocked he had done it.

I agree with Liz, telling off doesn't accomplish anything, they don't even know what it's for. Preventing things happening or giving them something else to do is what I do. Probably the lose wallpaper was a big temptation. Hank is so cute, he is just adorable
