I'm dreading it. It'll be an argument about what vaccines are necessary every year, every three years, or at all!!
Also, I'm a bit concerned about Dempsey. He has no energy, very lethargic & isn't enjoying his walks. He's eating fine (appetite's as voracious as always) & his poops fine so it isn't an infection, but it just isn't right, if you see what I mean?
I wonder whether it's something to do with the operation he had. Ever since then, although he's lost some weight & has a nice waist seen from above, he has a pot belly. I just can't get rid of it. Add that to the lethargy and I can't help but think they're connected. I've been wondering if he isn't getting rid of all the old food when he poops & the toxins are building up - a bit like when you have consipation it makes you feel all sort of heavy & tired?

I'm actually looking forward to not having to deal with a couple of hundred e-mails every day but I will miss the forum On the bright side I'm expected to go out drinking and to karoke bars every night. I wear more of a grey suit and the job has given me an opportunity to see the world.
Hope the vet visit goes okay it's always hard to find one that you can trust and vaccines are always a hot topic.

Poor Dempsy, but if its any condolence, I too have a pot belly that I can't rid of Maybe you can get something that will clear him out, they do it for humans so why not dogs, a little like colonic irragation (sp). I hope he behaves for you Caryll, we all know Dempsy isn't too fond of the vets! and is back to himself soon Xx

Re: what you doing tomoz
Well, the vet doesn't know what's wrong, although he agrees that he should have much more energy than he has. So he's taken blood samples & urine samples for tests & we'll get the results on Tuesday. He was really good until they tried to get a urine sample. He wouldn't pee, so they had to use a catheter (sp?). He yelped like a good-un, over and over again! Wimp!
The good thing about the visit, is that he didn't need vaccinating. The vets I use are going along with the WSAVA recommendations that vaccinations should be.....
At 8 weeks, 10 weeks & 16 weeks (in this country we don't do the 16 weeks jabs, but it looks like it will start to happen soon);
At 1 year old a booster for each of the main diseases;
thereafter, every 3 years, unless there's a particular problem with a disease in that area.
I didn't hear Dempsey saying "Oh, no, please give me the needles!".

Re: what you doing tomoz
Sounds like a better than usual visit! Pleased to hear about the jabs as I have held off Moo's this year because of the advice here (and also financially!) I just worry it will affect insurance?? Basically Caryll, Moo needs her ear checked again because the tumour (benin) is still there. They said either 4-6 or 6-8 weeks (can't remember) it would be gone. Its been 5 weeks now and still there, prominantly. She is well over due her jabs and I thought I would entail her jabs, and casue they aren't boosters now (2 visits) she has another all over check, where I can bring in the lump and ask. But if this lump does need removing, and she hasn't had her jabs, am I still insured?
A very long winded question but I am a little concerned, mainly for her lump, but I do think it is benin, but as to how not having jabs effects insurance?
I can go on........thanks hun Xxxx

Re: what you doing tomoz
The vet told me to download & print this........
http://www.wsava.org/PDF/Misc/VaccinationGuidelines2010.pdf
and send it with a covering letter to the insurance company saying something along the lines of "After taking the advice of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association I have not had Dempsey vaccinated this year, but will ensure that he is vaccinated, as per advice, in 2013. I have enclosed a copy of the recommendadtions made by the WSAVA for your persusal. Please acknowledge receipt of this letter, together with confirmation that it will be held, together with the accompanying WSAVA document, with the policy."
That's what I'll be doing tomorrow.

Re: what you doing tomoz
The thing is, he isn't 'ill'! He's happy, eating well etc, etc. He just doesn't have any energy when he goes for a walk - he doesn't even always want to go!
