New puppy
Hi everyone, I've put a deposit on a lovely staffy boy puppy. He is nearly 2 weeks old so I have time to prepare. My friend fosters Staffies so I do know & love the breed. I have a beautiful black and tan Jack Russell, he will be 6 next month. Does anyone else have 2 male terriers? Xx

Hi from me & Katy, 2 weeks old!!! that will feel like ages waiting for him to come home I only have 1 dog but I think keeping 2 the same sex can cause problems. Someone more experienced will give you more advise when they come on Pictures are a must here, especially puppy pics

Re: New puppy
Hi ya, welcome to the forum from Flo & me
I think it all really depends on the temperement of your older dog and how they are introduced. He'll need to be reasonably tollerant to suffer the boundless energy of a puppy in the early months
I'm sure it'll all be fine but like Jen, I only have the one Staffy but I'm certain others will be along to offer more advice.

Re: New puppy
Thankyou for answering. I will figure out how to post pics. Lol yes it seems like forever to wait. My Jack Russell is the most perfect behaved boy ever, he loves other dogs. I have two sons, 3 cats and a house rabbit and Saxon is good with them all. He normally loves playing with puppies but I realise that's different from living with a puppy full time. I'm really glad I found this forum xx

Re: New puppy
I don't have the tabs, I only get profile if I click add friend, but no avatar option. Maybe my rubbish phone haha, I broke my Samsung so using spare. I agree, both my boys are very caring and respect all animals. I think having animals teaches them so much. I hate to see kids using dogs as climbing frames etc. My boys know to call dogs, or wait till they come to u. No getting in their faces or being rough

Re: New puppy
He's tiny. That's his owner just now holding him. I couldn't go in and upset Mum. I'm going down next weekend to meet Mum, Dad and puppies properly next weekend and bringing a blanket for their bed. Then when we take him home at Easter hopefully his mummies smell will comfort him

Re: New puppy
Hi and welcome from me and mine too!
I agree, it depends on personality. I've had more than one dog in the house, different combinations, puppies and wonky old ones, staffies and others, for years. The current mix is two female and one male but we had 3 males and a female at one point without any problem. The only time we had anything go wrong was with a recent rescue whose problems surfaced after a couple of months.
What I would say is that, down the line, you might want to neuter fairly early to avoid problems when hormones start raging. Otherwise, let them sort themselves out unless they get OTT, make sure you teach the command 'enough' so that you can get some peace and quiet from time to time, and enjoy!
Re the blanket thing, another good idea is to take some clothing that smells of you and maybe of Saxon. That way your smell will become familiar now, which can help when you first bring him home.

Re: New puppy
Thanks Liz, good idea about the clothing. I've been confused about neutering to be honest. Some advice is get it done early and some is wait till the boy is mature and growth plates will have closed. I will speak to my vet as he is fab. Your comment has been helpful so thankyou. I had an old rescue male for a few years & Saxon was good with him but h has been an only dog for a few years now

Re: New puppy
As long as he's well socialised from a young age there shouldn't be any problems as he gets older. It sounds like you're on the right tracks with the bedding and things

Re: New puppy
Thankyou, I'm so excited to get him home. We plan to meet lots of people and dogs for socialising. There is puppy training on a Wednesday night just up the road from me I need to check out. If it's not very positive and fun there is an excellent one 16 miles away

Re: New puppy
Puppy training is a brilliant thing to do. As you say it needs to be fun and positive, then it's worth every moment.
Yes, talk to your vet about neutering. Absolutely it helps to have dogs well socialised but when you have a couple of lads in the home together you can find that you have moments of sorting out who gets first dibs at things, and having hormones in that mix can make it just a little more so. For me, I'd say it's something that's a sensible preventative measure that you might well not need, but just in case.

Re: New puppy
I think you are definitely right and it's something to think about. I got my jrt done at around 15 months to let him mature. My vet gave me a Yorkshire terrier years ago that he rescued, to be spoiled in the last month's of his life. Happily that turned into 2 years, anyway he got neutered as an old boy due to tumours , which luckily were contained in the testicles. So for that reason I will get it done at some point.
