Hi,
My dog spewed a worm that looked like a big noodle. Are over the counter meds sufficent for this or should I goto the vet. Should i buy over the counter or is the vet best bet? any help is much appreciated.

Re: spewed up worm
Hi and welcome to the forum!
You didn't keep the worm, did you? Different worming products contain different active ingredients, which target different worms. If you have the worm I'd pop to the vet - they will be able to identify it properly for you and make sure you have a product that will deal with that worm most effectively.
Failing that, I'd buy a broad spectrum wormer such as Milbemax - you can usually get it from your vet without needing an appointment. However, if your dog has a worm burden that is to the extent of passing large worms, it might be worth getting a general checkup anyway as worms can cause significant damage that you can't see because it's internal.
Make sure that whatever you give is appropriate and of the right dose - if you don't get them all you can be left with a problem that you think you've dealt with but haven't and also potential drug resistance problems. Using the right product at the right dosage should clear it up quickly.

Re: spewed up worm
it would be so much better to decide what to give to your dog if you kept the worm. Milbemax would do the trick most of the time but I advise you to take your dog to the vet.

Re: spewed up worm
I would certainly pay your vet a visit even if you no longer have what your dog spewed up,you will be able to give the vet a good description. And my advice is to never go to a pet shop or the like to purchase any worming medication as in my opinion what they sell you is utterly useless.Only a vet is licensed to prescribe the treatment your dog requires.Your vet will then be able to give your dog a good check over, weigh him and give the correct medication to sort out the problem.

Re: spewed up worm
hi there & welcome.
as the others have said, a trip to the vet is probably wise. the 'over the counter' wormers (such as Bob Martin) are totally useless & in some cases have produced nasty side effects!
you don't say how old your dog is? if it's a pup, then worms are quite normal. however, for them to be sicked up means that it's a large worm burden & so a vet should be consulted.
