Type of colour? Empty Type of colour?

Post by moka24 Thu Jan 05 2017, 10:21

Hi here are some photos of Moka the SBT and Jedi his older brother a french bulldog. He is predominantly tanned or fawn colour with a white chest and a few very light black areas too, like his nose, tail, and funny little mask above his eyes. I really like his black tail... however i was wondering what his exact colour is and is it considered one of those "undesired" colours with regards to being shown? Showing him is not something i am desperate to do however it would be nice to know either way. He is a great pup, really cute and very obedient for his age. we have been going to puppy training classes here in France where he is very popular and doing well  Smile any help would be appreciated.

Brindle, Blck, White, Fawn or Red are breed standard colours. Black and Tan along with Liver colours are described as undesirable. Now what the difference is between Fawn, Red or Liver to me would be hard to descern but I'm not a Judge

You say Moka with his older brother, obviously not a blood brother.Looking at the photo I would call him fawn in colour. He has the black nose, dark eyes and nails. If he is a thorough bred staff and registered as that I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to show him.As stated the only colours that are classed as undesirable are the black and tan,and the liver colour.
As a matter of interest,do you know the colour of his parents, that might give me some sort of clue as to where he got that colouring.

Ian,if you saw a Red,and a Liver coloured dog standing together there would be no doubt in your mind. Wink

Thanks for your response, sorry i did not reply sooner. No that's not his his blood brother he is a french bulldog, but they get on like brothers. Moka is a LOF pedigree 'which is french equivalent of KC registered i believe'. His mother was brindle and father fawn. I think what was confusing me was the black and tan thing, however now i understand it as, black being the main colour with tan is undesirable and liver... Rather than Moka who is the other way round. It really isn't an issue for me, i'm just curious.

I would say that he is actually a black & tan, but he has the allele (?) for fawn. He's gorgeous, but i would imagine that he'd not do well in the show ring because of his colour. (Breed Standard UK..."Red, fawn, white, black or blue, or any one of these colours with white. Any shade of brindle or any shade of brindle with white. Black and tan or liver colour highly undesirable.").

If he isn't going to be shown or bred from, then it doesn't matter one way or another - he's a handsome chap!
