It looks like a Bullmastiff crossed with a Dogue de Bordeaux, I don't think its one breed. Why, what did he say it was?

And yeh what Andy said. Ddb have more bulldog like faces then other mastiffs. I think this dog is better looking then the average Dbd.

Re: What type of dog is this?
Looking at the picture I'd say a Dogue de Bordeaux due to the colour, I'd say though that it's crossed with a Bullmastiff as the face is very similar

Dogue de Bordeaux aka French Mastiff.
Pretty obvious, they're the only huge ginger thing in the "mastiff" type group >D

Stopped le pups bleeding to death in the ring, when they were fought. Or should I say, it lessened the chance of their ears being torn off. Poor babies.
But sometimes it's just people's cup of tea these days. I have no preference tbh.

Not a chance! It looks very much like the dog down the road to me. He's a Bull Mastiif x Neapolitan Mastiff.

I most definitely have a preference! It's totally barbaric!

Totally agree with the point on the ears being cropped doesn't look right at all not to mention the cruelty of it.

Re: What type of dog is this?
Definitely a Dogue de Bordeaux mix of some kind. That is in no way an APBT.
I, personally, hate ear cropping and tail docking, but it is not only done for fighting. Just look at all of the American Staffordshire Terriers shown in the AKC. Most have ears cropped and none are used for fighting.

Re: What type of dog is this?
I know why its done I mean why do people continue to do it just for looks. Its disgusting. The only dogs that should be cropped are hog hunters.it was done to stop fighting dogs bleedy to death

BTW what are hog hunters? Why on earth should humans change anything surgically on a dog (or any other animal). Perhaps we should give human babies belly rings to spare them doing it in their teens?

Re: What type of dog is this?
The way it is done today Hog Hunting is disgusting and cruel to both the dogs and the hogs. It should be illegal. Ear cropping and tail docking should be illegal in the US, it is cruel and unnecessary. It's illegal in Finland, as well, I was so happy to see Boxers and Rottweilers with tails this summer. :-)

Re: What type of dog is this?
Tail docking is a must in some cases.
I grew up around working dogs and a patterdale terrier owned by my uncle had to have the tail docked because his flanks would be sprayed with blood because of the whipping action of his tail. In this kind of case I agree but just for what the owner thinks looks good for me its a no no.

Re: What type of dog is this?
I have no problem with tail docking or ear cropping for medical reasons. I don't think anyone does. It's the ear cropping and tail docking solely for appearance that is the problem.George wrote:Tail docking is a must in some cases.

Ear cropping is rarely needed even for medical reasons. OK, an ear could get damaged & part may need to be cut away, but that isn't 'cropping'.

Re: What type of dog is this?
They go after the really huge feral pigs in the deep south and I believe there are quite a few in Oz as well but I don't know about them-perhaps an Australian member would know? They don't use staffies or pits but useally use cross breeds to chase and hold the 'hog' and then use dogs like the Dogo Argentino to finish it off. Sometimes they just use the cross breeds to 'hold' it then shoot it. Its very dangerous. If someone is going to take a dog hog hunting, the least they can do is crop their long ears (the dogs are useally hound mixes). But this is a very extreme example, I literally cringe to see a dog with sliced off ears and a multilated tail.BTW what are hog hunters? Why on earth should humans change anything surgically on a dog (or any other animal). Perhaps we should give human babies belly rings to spare them doing it in their teens?
Although in regard to your belly button comment I would have loved that lol and a lot of parents do pierce their childrens ears very young. I think I was eighteen months.
But yeh if you want pointy ears on your dog bloody buy a pointy eared breed, theres enough variety around.
