Have we adopted a pit type?! Empty Have we adopted a pit type?!

Post by Paul H Fri Mar 01 2013, 13:46

Lucy was out on a walk today into town, to help with getting her used to people being around her. It went ok, but one foreign sounding guy remarked "you have pit bull?", the reply being "no, they're banned!". He replied "that's pitbull, I had one".....

The rescue centre said she's a staffy cross, and she looks very staffy but...taller. It's nagging the back of my mind now, I've been looking at pitbull type pictures and there is a slight look.

Here's a picture of a pitbull I found:

Have we adopted a pit type?! American_pit_bull_terrier_-_seated_sm

And here's Lucy:

Have we adopted a pit type?! 2013-02-15%2017.13.52

Have we adopted a pit type?! 2013-02-18%2013.59.41

What do you think? It's worrying me a bit, I've read of dogs being seized just for looking like a pit type....

The dreaded term type is really open to opinion. That's why it's so wrong.

She def doesn't look like a pit to me. You can try to avoid these things by just saying she's a staffy x.

Logan is registered and everything with papers but that doesn't make him any more safe apparently.

Just enjoy her matey Smile

People love to throw around 'Pitbull'. Any mix around my ends that has any type of bully look is called a Pitbull by all the idiots.

If the rescue centre said she was a Staffy cross then Staffy cross she is. Do you have any paperwork from the rescue centre with her breed specified ??

Yes we have the paperwork, it says staffy cross and she's chipped.

Thanks for your reassuring replies everyone, my paranoia is at rest now!

Every thug seems to be a dog 'expert'! Annoys me alot.

Some guy came up to Moll and said 'ohhh i think shes too tall for a staff etc got some pit in her, I had one, I'd know'. I just stopped him in his tracks, explained I knew the breed etc and shes a staff and I'd know because she was my dog (tech a rescue so could have a little of something else too but I didn't say that) shes even the right height etc so don't think your alone in people making silly comments!

It's annoying, but everyone seems to think if you have a Staff that isn't as short and stocky, it's a pitbull. It's stupid, you have a Staff x, and a gorgeous one at that Big Grin that's all.

No where near type mate. I know what people are thinking and its the ears that they see first. The thing is ears are one of the things not mentioned in defras guidlines. The rest looks like ahealthy staffy cross. Try to keep that form as its perfect and really healthy looking.

No I wouldn't say so! I get asked if Biscuit's a pit bull all of the time and she looks nothing like one! Just silly people making assumptions about things that they know nothing about Smile If there was any worry that she was type she would have been tested by the centre before going up for adoption! Staffy x's come in all shapes and sizes, you've got a very pretty girl there! Enjoy her Smile

As everyones stated already, people love to throw the term 'pit' around. I get it all the time with Zeus (as recent as yesterday), and he doesnt look anything like a pit, he's just a big staffy so people automatically think hes a pit. Like you, I was a bit paranoid too but pay no attention, just uneducated people that don't know what theyre talking about.

A labrador crossed with a boxer can be a pitbull type. It's such a broad term.
