Re: Blue and Tan staffs
There was one of them round here, looked how the first pic does when it was younger but the blue started to take over the tan parts as it got bigger so it looked like a sort of seal point colour but they must have rehomed it cos they have a toy poodle now so never see it get past about 6mths

Hmmmm, really cute, but another dilute?
I suppose it'll be classed as a 'rare' colour & the price will go up, or am I just being cynical?

They are cute and the breeder will probally use the color to get a higher price.

Your not being cynical Caryll your more than likely right, again colour (or lack of it) over conformationCaryll wrote:Hmmmm, really cute, but another dilute?

Seriously very cute, and needs loving but dont be fooled in a high price for a rare sbt it probably doesnt have a pedigree but then im probably being cynical

Re: Blue and Tan staffs
I noticed that too,the breeder wants between £300-£450 for them and up to £500 for the male one,it's ridiculous. Jett was and still is so much nicer than them and I got him for less than £100 with him being the last of the litter.
Re: Blue and Tan staffs
Dont get me wrong its not the price of any pup its the fact breeders are pushing them as rare that makes me mad.youngkaiser wrote:Id never seen them before but i suppose they can have them. Kaiser for me has good conformation and you know I love him but £700 for a colour is robery

Re: Blue and Tan staffs
They are cute, but you cant really push them on as rare cuz they are obviously outcrossed somewhere along the line. Its very unlikely that they are naturally that colour or someone would have seen it before. I have seen it in dobermanns.

Re: Blue and Tan staffs
I only found out how popular the Blue's were when we started seriously looking at buying a Stafford a few months back. I'd become interested in Staffords about 10 years ago and never found one blue for sale now they're all over the place.
I think they're great looking but the prices people are asking for them are disgusting IMO..

Re: Blue and Tan staffs
I've seen it in Dobes and have heard it is correlated with health problems in Dobes.

Yes, there are health-related issues in dobes.

Re: Blue and Tan staffs
Same is true in staffords,it's a dilute gene, recessive and can cause issues,Skin and Coat problems are common in blue staffords, and it can cause Colour Dilution Alopecia along with auto immune issues.
I personally would like a total ban on Blue to blue mating's for that reason,as you only dilute the gene further, therefore increasing the risk of these issues.

Re: Blue and Tan staffs
Im not into showing at all but i dont know if the showing colour restrictions have me brainwashed or something, but i dont like the colour at all! I like purebreds to be of typical colour, i mean i can't imagine a rottie being anything but black and tan, or a samyod being anything but white..
They are very cute but i just dont like the colour sorry.

Tyler&megsmum, couldn't agree more! There are so many problems that come out of breeding dilutes to dilutes!

Re: Blue and Tan staffs
The last time I got into this debate, the door was slammed shut on it! so I'm not going to say any more on the subject other than one of Max's sisters was blue/fawn like the one in steve's pic above, and she was going for slightly less than the blues !!!
