Diarrhea

Gave dexter a treat of a very large bone yesterday called the postman's leg he loved it but last night he had diarrhea wasn't nice to come down to this morning. He seems OK now haven't fed him yet. Guess it was the bone that caused it got from petmania. Made some rice waiting for it to cooland kept the water to give to him as well. The thing is I gave him stool firm-UM it wasn't till later I saw not to give if suffering from diarrhea just wondering is this going to make him worst, worried now. All is well at the moment he hasn't gone to toilet yet still active playing with kids. Will I just give him rice and keep an eye on him? Don't know what to do now!

Poor dexter hope he's feeling better soon. Try not to worry too much some times it can be a bit rich at first but they soon get used to it. When harley first ate raw bones he was a bit sick and had the runs. Keep him on chicken and rice for a few days also scrambled egg made with water should help bind his stomach if he's not being himself or isn't drinking pop him to the vet.

i assume it was a cooked bone? if so, it may well have been treated with all sorts of nasties to clean it etc & that may have caused the runs!

in future you'd be better off only giving him raw bones.

in the meantime i would invest in some Kaogel (you can get it online - amazon do it) and give him the recommended dose, twice a day which should clear everything up. also, you can try giving him a couple of boiled eggs - they often firm things up a bit.

Ahh bless him, some of those bones do give them bad bellies. My frenchies breeder told me about a paste called "Pro Kolin" that you can order from Tesco delivery for about £12. It's a syringe paste and you squirt on their dinner to firm them up.

It's quite good, I have some in my cupboard for such occasions.
