Ruby goes in to be spayed next week!! How much care is needed after?
Hi guys
havent been on the forum for a while!! Our Ruby gets spayed next Tuesday (NZ Time) she is 20 mths now and has had 3 heats so we decided to get it done now before the next.
Bit of a worrying time with the op etc, hoping for a quick recovery. How do you care for them when they come home? We have asked for her to have some extra pain relief for us to bring home aswell.

It is a worry when we put them in for that op but she will be absolutely fine They tell you to keep them quiet & calm when you take them home When we collected Katy my oh came with me to lift her into the truck but as we opened then door she leapt straight in Bit quiet on the first night, gave her a dinner of chicken & rice. Next day she wanted to play as normal, spoke to the vet & was told to reduce her painkillers as she wasn't feeling anything, ended up stopping them on vets advise! Lead walks for 2 weeks is hard work!!! Ruby will be her normal self before you know it

Misty was spayed after her second season when she was about 16 months old. She looked very frail when we picked her up. We took her to my mums so she didnt have to go up stairs and we left her in the front room to give her peace and quiet. She didnt want any of that- she would only sleep if we were in the room with her. The next morning she was back to her usual self! The hardest thing was keeping her quiet for two weeks and only short walks with no excitement and no jumping. We had to sleep in the front room with her in sleeping bags to stop her jumping onto our bed where she normally sleeps!
Good Luck Ruby- you wont be sorry to not go through having seasons anymore

Can't add any further advice than that already given above. Ruby will be just fine, it's as routine as ops can be, just try and stop her over reaching by climbing etc.
Let us know how it all goes Debs

id also suggest as the vet may only on lead walks for the first week or so till stitches are removed expect her to be groggy for the first day mia was a bit groggy for 2 days dnt give food after 5pm the night before the op. expect her to be at the vet at least 6 hours . I was checking mia every 30 mins I couldnt wait to get her home she will be fine . almost forgot prepare a light meal as opposed to her normal dinner after the op I gave mia chicken she never ate it think it was cos I put it on a dinner plate
