Out walking in hot weather
Hi there
Just thought I'd ask you all because I know some of us staffy lovers live in some really hot places. When you go for a walk, how do you manage to carry, keys, treats, ball, pooh bags, water bottle and water with you when you have shorts and t shirts on and are holding the lead of an excitable staffy? I'm asking because we have had some really hot weather in the uk the past couple of weeks and I find I look like I'm going hiking with everything hanging off me or bursting out of my bum bag..! And it all weighs a ton and not very comfortable.
We're usually out twice a day for around an hour and a half for ball throwing and fetch and then a walk in the hills. If she meets some of her pooch pals its even longer and she runs a lot more too, so I feel like I need to take water with me.
I just wondered what everybody else did because I dont see anybody else looking like the mad dog woman on the park with her bum bag and bottles. . Ideas? Xx

Re: Out walking in hot weather
I live in Australia so Summer temps sit regularly in the early 40c+ range day after day. I take a lightweight canvas tote/shoulder bag, its big enough for everything i need - 3 btls water, boomer ball, poo bags, long lead, collapsible bowl, my keys & phone

Re: Out walking in hot weather
Hiya, I live in the UK too and must admit I hate the summer as I can't wear my coat with pockets. Now I take a gymsack ( think that's what they are called) and stick the long line, poo bags, whistle, keys, phone and water bottle in. As we constantly have to have treats on hand for watch me etc hubby and I have treat pouches we normally stick in our pockets so now I just have to hold that in the other hand to the lead. Hubby has attached a massive hook to his so hangs his off his belt. Hubby doesn't take a bag with him but he's bought one of those fisherman waistcoats that have loads of pockets on. He wears that with every pocket full of something!
You are right though as I don't see anyone else struggling and never see people giving their dogs a drink in the park etc.

Re: Out walking in hot weather
be what i use .. as opposed to carrying a bag ..one of those fisherman waistcoats that have loads of pockets on.
easy to find one in a summer 'weight' ..
plenty to choose from ..
that and trouser pockets .. the more the better
so for dog walkies it's been army-surplus trousers
cheap cheerful and fairly durable ..
( could be shortened just below the thigh pockets
( for summer-shorts ..
the a.s.t.'s are a bit worn now .. need patching
so bought some replacements from ..
http://www.rohan.co.uk/mens-bargain-travel-and-outdoor-clothing-in-the-souk
( sale items )
so far they are brilliant .. extremely comfortable
be some 'convertible' ones .. on sale ..
in the womans dept

Re: Out walking in hot weather
When we go on a "proper" walk as opposed to a park walk we take a back pack with water and stuff. If it's just a park walk we leave water in the car with a plastic bowl but I know what you mean with the toys n bags and everything... Damn our dogs are so needy

Re: Out walking in hot weather
I was researching this for the same reason - I also want to get something similar for my sister as she has twin (human) babies and needs to be more mobile.
There are bumbags that are designed for hikers - they look much more sturdy and better designed - than the bumbag-for-tourists variety. I'd cross-ref for reviews.
Here are some:

Here are some that come up on Amazon when I look for Hiking bumbag

Re: Out walking in hot weather
That's great, thanks for the tips. I'm definitely going to invest in a good hiking bum bag, the one I have is hopeless. I think I might give the fishermans waistcoat a miss though. I don't think it will suit me.
Mia05 - where do you keep your pooh bags? I'm intrigued
