Advice please on Staffy who has a sore bottom and scoots around on it
My Staff appears to have a red sore patch around her vulva area and scoots a lot in circles on her backside.
She has been to vets who says it's not anal glands or worms but the problem persists.
Any ideas anyone?
Thank you

Re: Advice please on Staffy who has a sore bottom and scoots around on it
Hi ya Suzy, welcome to the Forum from Flo & me
I moved your post here as it will get seen by more people.
I too have a Staffy that scoots and chews her rear paws and it is a labour to keep her sore free I can tell you. Same as you, the vet has no real answer other than "Allergies" !!! and a course of injections over 6 months with no guarantee that she will be cured
We have opted for clean and treat when she nibbles too much. We also use Cortavance spray, which used to make her jump but not anymore and sudocrem/E45. The latter can be a little odd looking when she is walking around with a white butt, however, it's better than her being sore. I think the hardest thing is to break the cycle.
We have added supplements and coconut oil etc but not seen any drastic improvement so if anyone else posts here on this topic I will be as interested as you.

Hi from me & Katy, unfortunately your vet has ruled out both suggestions I would of made Has she been wormed recently? as that can also cause scooting

Hi from me and mine
Did you ask your vet for other options or was it just 'not that or that' and no other ideas? If the latter, I'd be asking again, or going to another vet. Ian's idea of allergies is definitely worth looking into but there are other conditions that need ruling out. A friend's collie has recently been diagnosed with perianal fistula and the only symptoms she had were constant scooting around.

Hi and welcome to the forum from me and the zoo xx
Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately) I have no experience with this issue. I would personally be going for a second opinion from a different vet just to double check and see if they have any further suggestions.

has she been spayed, and if so, at what age?
try bathing with salt water, drying & then rubbing coconut oil into the affected area. i don't much like Sudocrem as it contains zinc which is poisonous if licked off.

I've been looking this up on the Internet and your dog is not alone.
What exactly are her symptoms? Is the vulva swollen? Is there discharge? Does she need to pee more often than usual or in a different way? How long have symptoms gone on for? Are there times of the day when they are more noticeable? Any other details about your dog in general - previous illnesses or has she been on antibiotics recently as dogs can get candida too.
