Hi all
I have a 11 week old Staffie, and not had a Staffie before. She keeps jumping up and nipping us, or if you use the word No then this tends to make her bite more. She also constantly goes for our feet. My 4 year old grandson is quite scared of her. We have tried ignoring her, tried distraction with a toy and used a firm No,. She has hurt me a couple of times, she can go out on Monday so I am hoping that this will help. I'm worried that she will be aggressive, because when she nips its in an aggressive manner. Please can someone help me.Thanks

This is supposed to be the cute age Laughing

At 11 weeks they don't know what aggression is, it really is all play and learning. Sounds like you are doing all the right things by distracting and giving a toy etc. You could also add in a loud Yelp too which will tell her it hurts.

Keep all body bits away from those sharp little teeth so as to not give the opportunity and do keep going, it really will get better I promise.

I would imagine that walks will help quiet a lot too Smile

Oh... Welcome to the forum from Flo and me Big Grin

Hi from me & Katy, Skye is not being aggressive as at 11wks old they don't know aggression. She is just testing what she can get away with, Katy was a little s**t for feet biting as a pup!! Yelping used to make Katy worse so she used to get a time out in a room we could shut the door on. Only for a minute or so, if she did it again she was put back in there! she soon got the idea Smile

They do learn quickly, it's just working out what makes them understand what's acceptable.

You will get there Smile

Hi & welcome.

You've probably already been told this, but she's still VERY young & it'll take a little time & patience to get there - but get there she will!

be consistent & kind, try to keep calm & steady - give her 'time out' if you've had enough. She WILL respond, but it may take a little while longer.

Hello, please don't worry this is perfectly normal your puppy at this age, it's not aggression.

Children are a great target for them as they squeal and run and get excited, which makes the pup even more excited, I have been there.

When the 4 year old is there have the puppies lead on (but don't hold it), if she nips don't say anything, pick up her lead very calmly and remove her from the room for a couple of minutes. Let her back in, if she does it again remove her again. Keep doing it as often as you need. Leads can be agreat training aid indoors. She will finally get the message and stop it.

My little one was 18 months old when I had my pup and it can be very worrying at first, but honestly it will settle down so don't worry. x

Hello from Dexter and I...

as the others have said, she isnt being aggressive, its what she would have done with her siblings if she was still with mum...shes using her teeth as a way of feeling her way around...it soon calms down.

Dexter (6 months old) would always go for my 14yr old son, and sometimes would nip quite hard, drew blood a few times, but with firm no and a 'time out' he soon learnt it wasnt acceptable...he has calmed down so much and is a little gem now.

persevere with her, she'll soon learn x

a little tip with soothing sore gums - wet a clean tea towell, put a couple of knots in it & freeze it. Then give it to your pup to chew on. it'll kill two birds with one stone - satisfy the chewing urge, and the cold will soothe sore gums.
