jumping up on people
My pup has a habit of jumping up on people if they give him any attention. When he dose it to me I give him a firm no and tell him to sit and then he taps me on the leg for attention and I'll rub him then and he's grand. But with other people he totally ignores me and gets hyper. Any advice to stop him doing this.

Try and turn your back to him and ask others to do the same. He is jumping up for attention so by ignoring him he will get to understand jumping up means no attention. When he has all four paws on the floor then give him a good fussing

Similarly to Emma, I'd go down the rewarding for getting down route and also teach a command so that he knows what he's supposed to do. So, I would be teaching "off" or "down" instead of no and then giving a treat and a fuss immediately. The key is to greet/fuss him when all feet are on the floor, if possible before he has a chance to jump up or if not after you have told him to get down.

He's grand with me now he comes up beside me and with one paw he starts taping me on the leg for notice which is fine. But everyone else just hyper. I'll take your advice and tell people to turn their back until he calms down and then rub him. I wouldn't mind though when we meet other dogs I tell him to sit until I get the ok from other owners and tell him to play and he jumps all over the place in excitement playing but people are different.

Re: jumping up on people
The tapping on the leg for attention is sweet but it is still demanding 'me me me now!' and might become annoying later on, so I'd probably ignore that too.
Getting other people to ignore a sweet puppy is incredibly difficult and I'll confess I still struggle with Millie jumping up sometimes. What's worked best for me is having her on the lead when she meets people, then calling her to me for a treat before allowing her to go and say hello. That seems to take the initial excitement out of the encounter a bit.

With the family he taps them on the leg to which is good with the younger kids because he would just knock them over. He dose want attention the whole time he follows me around like my shadow because I'm at home the whole time. But I'll give it ago with the treat when when out with him to distracted him. People find it hard not to rub him because he looks up at them with ear back and not just tail wagging but bum as well pleading for them to rub and once that hand goes down he starts jumping up and I warn people that he's going to do it before they touch him.

be careful with using 'down' if you also use that word to get him to lie down - he could be confused.

Re: jumping up on people
I started using the word down which he,s learning instead of staying no which I say was confusing. I say lie when I want him to lie down. He was quick to learn other commands it just seems to be taken longer to learn him not to jump up but we,ll get their. Thanks for all of the advice.

Re: jumping up on people
That's the trouble sometimes when they're such friendly little dogs! Bug still jumps up at times when she's really excited or hasn't seen somebody for a long time and she can be really boisterous. When we have visitors we tend to give her a stuffed kong in her bed she still wags her little butt off but can't tear herself away from the kong by the time she's finished it, the visitor has been here for a while and she's chilled after a kong session, so she just waddles up and says hello appropriately

Re: jumping up on people
I have to admit that this is the one behaviour that I really struggle with. Eco knows not to jump on me and is much better with people who know her.
Introduce strangers to the mix and she is just all over them.
I have come to the realisation that I have to keep her on lead with new visitors and unpredictable environments if I don't want to deal with her possibly upsetting people!
