Hey all! New blue staff pup.
Hey everyone!
I'm Holli, and I recently bought a little Staffordshire Bull Terrier who's now 8/9 weeks.
(Bought her at 6 weeks under the impression she was older However we've managed well.
Going well, her name is Beau and she's a blue staff.
Puppy pad training is going well, though she has her moments.
First jabs & microchip done.
Learning to walk on her lead well in the garden too.
Quick questions:
She's microchipped with tracer and upgraded to premium for peace of mind. Her collar has a tag with contact numbers & names. On her collar she also has a tracer tag to say she's microchipped. My biggest fear, although probably a bit over the top, is what are my options as to making her more safe if she is lost or stolen?
She's blue, so identical to most other blue staffies, though grows three white hairs on her back which is a little more comforting t o be able to tell her apart.
I was wondering what are some step you take/know of to make your pups & dogs extra safe? I was looking at GPS trackers in her collar (though if she was stolen I assume they take the collar off..)
Nice to meet you all, pictures coming soon!

Re: Hey all! New blue staff pup.
Hi ya Holli, welcome to the forum from Flo and me
Sounds like you've made a great start with the training shame about leaving the litter so early but hey what's done is done and how to move forward.
Socialising is essential at a young age as they learn so much from interacting with others whilst so young. Have you thought about puppy classes ? A great way to learn yourself and for Beau to get a good start.
I would suggest plenty of photos to show that should the worst happen and you lose her you will have lots of pictures to a) show around & b) use to confirm identity. The microchip should do all that for you anyway but it'll give you a good first clue. I think I'm right in saying that in Australia they make a small tattoo in side the ear but I'm not entirely clear as to why.
A GPS Tracker is only good whilst the collar is on like you say so may be of use when out and about but to be honest if you get the training right she won't be in a position to get lost hopefully. As for being stolen, I can't see you ever leaving her in a position that she might be dognapped any ways

Re: Hey all! New blue staff pup.
Welcome to the forum from me and Rio agree with what Ian said about getting her socialised, especially as her being such a young pup when away from the litter, it'll help with her training and doggy manners
Is there a reason you're particularly worried about her being stolen? Is there a history in your area? It sounds like you've done all the right things to help keeping her safe. I'd also do simple things like not advertising you have a staffy if you're too worried, so i know there's been a few thefts in hampshire in the last year so i don't have any "beware of dog/ my staffy lives here" type signs. Plus making sure she has good recall before letting her off in parks so she doesn't zoom off in excitement

Re: Hey all! New blue staff pup.
all I can think also is no signs in your garden ie: beware of the dog and keeping the pup close unless they have good recall welcome from me and mia

Re: Hey all! New blue staff pup.
Welcome from Misty and I.
I agree with the above- sadly the days are gone when you can proudly hang signs like 'Staffy lives here'. In the 90s I used to pop with the shop with my lab and leave her outside for two mins when I went in- she used to love being in the car so we would take her to Tesco and leave her in the car while we shopped (never on a sunny day of course) nowadays I wouldn't dream of leaving Misty anywhere even for a second- its far too dangerous.

Re: Hey all! New blue staff pup.
Hi from me & Katy, I've had her from 6wks so was hard work. Her only downside from being taken from her litter that early is she is reactive to other dogs (different from aggressive) Sounds like you are doing all you can to protect her

Re: Hey all! New blue staff pup.
Hi from Koda & i in Sydney
Blue staffys are def a 'hot item' here, my advice is never leave her alone in public, make sure shes secure at home & away from front fences to be seen thru etc. Just not worth any risk! You'll get plenty of attention walking her just be careful with that too, when my boy was a pup i had a tradie pull up beside us asking if he was a purebred etc so i said no he's a rescue and worth nothing!! Now i take him for rides in my truck, to the pub etc i just dont leave him anywhere
Im not sure about the ear tattoos Ian I've never heard of that?? My advice is make sure hes chipped in case he runs off, and have a tag with "im chipped" on one side & your contact number (no names as can track your address etc!) on the opposite side. Enjoy every second of the staffy madness!!

Re: Hey all! New blue staff pup.
Hiya from me and Vinnie, micro chipping should be adequate as not much more you can do apart from secure garden and be vigilant I dont know if her name is on her tag but personally wouldnt put a dogs name on them as they can be called then and more likely to react to someone

Hi from Ice and me.
Microchip should be more than enough. But like Inez said don't put ya dogs name on the collar as it is a familiar sound to her if someone calls her.
